The week had passed quickly, Evangeline only seeing Asher  briefly before she had to go to school on Wednesday. The weekend came faster than Evangeline thought. Charlotte and Emily had invited her to sleep over along with Julia, and they spent the entire Saturday hanging out together. Night time came and they found themselves hanging out in Charlotte's room.

"Sooooo Eva, what's happening with this mystery guy that we don't know?" asked Julia. Julia was sitting on Charlotte's bed reading  a magazine. Charlotte and Emily were on the floor munching on all the junk food they could find in their house. Evangeline was sitting at Charlotte's desk, thinking about Asher.

"Nothing much really, I barely see him because he doesn't go to our school, and he doesn't even have a phone" she replied. The girls all stopped what they were doing to look at Evangeline.

"Wait you mean to tell me this kid doesn't have a phone? Is he from the ancient times or something?" Charlotte scoffed.

"Yeah, and what do you actually know about this kid? Like has he even told you what school he goes to?" questioned Emily. Evangeline looked at them and thought back to their brief conversation on Wednesday.

--------*Flashback*--------

"Eva, hey EVA, wait up." Evangeline stopped and turned around from the school entrance. She saw Asher waving his hands at her, motioning for her to come to him. She walked over to him and saw that he had one of his smiles plastered on his face.

"Hey Asher, whats up?"

"Ohhh same old same old. Hey listen, do you want to maybe skip school with me today, we can go anywhere you like?"

"Asher are you kidding? You know I can't just skip school right? And speaking of school shouldn't you be at yours?" She laughed at his question. Seriously it's like this kid never goes to school she thought.

"Ohhh come on, it's just one day."

"Ash, I'm sorry I really can't, I have to get to class. But I'll see you later, OK?"She waved goodbye to him and started to turn around to head inside the school. She had a quick thought and turned around again. "ASH hey wait up"

"Yeah what's up Eva?" he asked.

"What school do you go to?"

"Fairview." The words left Ashers mouth before he could register what he was saying. "Shit, I mean not Fairview I go to ummm..." he stuttered with the words coming out of his mouth.

"Well, then what school do you go to?" she questioned. She couldn't understand the expression on his face, it looked like a mixture of regret and sadness.

"No, no, I go to Fairview, I just got confused for a second" the smile was back on his face before she could question him again. "Alright, you go to class OK? I don't want you being late." He waved at her before turning around and walking away. Evangeline stood in her spot confused at their small interaction. She looked around at the people around her, and found that they were all staring at her. She shrugged it off and headed into the school.

--------*End of flashback*--------

"If you must know," Evangeline said, "he said he goes to Fairview, so that's not too far from here, just the next town over right?" Charlotte nodded, confirming Evangeline's question.

Emily piped back into the conversation. "Still though, none of us have ever heard of this kid, and didn't you say that he wouldn't even give you his last name? The kid is strange Eva." Evangeline shrugged, ignoring her friend's claims. In the short amount of time that she had known Asher, she felt like their bond was something she had never felt before.

"There's just something about him, I don't know, I really like him."

"We're just trying to help you dude, he could literally be some crazy serial killer for all we know" Charlotte joked. Everyone laughed at her comment. They turned on Charlotte's TV, and scrolled through thousands of movies before finally picking one,  Jupiter Ascending. Evangeline had never heard of it, but the rest of her friends were thrilled to watch it. As they watched the movie, Charlotte kept thinking back to Asher. There was something strange about him. His mannerisms and the way he talked, she knew the girls were right, not about the serial killer part, but the part about him being off. He had to be hiding something. And she decided that the next time she saw him, she would find out what he was hiding.
