I took Jaime's bag from the nurse as Dean took her coat. The coat held her sent and it was both comforting and heartbreaking at the same time. After a while I plucked up the courage to look inside the bag, I wasn't sure why i did but something (or someone) told me too.

"What are you looking for?" Dean asked.

''I'm not sure'' I replied

I felt a little intrusive as I unzipped the inside pocket and came across what I didn't realize I was searching for. Three 4" x 6" scan photos, one for each of us. I handed one photo to Dean as Roman came to join us, looking over Dean's shoulder at the photo in his hand. Dean cried and Roman placed a hand on his shoulder, silently comforting him.

As I looked at the photo, it suddenly dawned on me that this was Jaime's last gift, the evidence of her existence in the form of her baby. I could see her features in the babies. It had her nose and lips, and I knew it would have been as perfect as she was. Neither one of them may have been here now, but we'd always have this photo.

A nurse from earlier walked past us and I called out to her. "This may sound a little strange but could you tell us what gender the baby was?'' The nurse looked confused as she saw Dean and I both holding onto the scan pictures

''We were going to find out today'' I explained

The nurse looked at me with a sympathetic expression and I wasn't sure why I felt the need to explain the situation to her, but I did and she spoke just loud enough for Dean and Roman to hear what she was saying from where they were

"The baby was a boy" she replied. "I am so sorry for your loss''

She left and Roman pulled us both into a hug and Dean looked at me. "Did you see how many weeks the scan it said on the photo"

I frowned, not knowing what Dean was talking about until I saw it. There was no longer any doubt. The number of weeks confirmed Dean was the baby's father.

"I was gonna be a dad" Dean said sadly. "I never had the chance to feel him kick"

Roman watched on as I patted Dean on the shoulder "He'll be there, waiting for you one day"

Dean nodded "And she'll be there waiting for you"

I understood what Dean was meant, and I appreciated the gesture. He and Jaime may have made a baby together, but it was always me she was supposed to be with. We all shared a part of her and we all loved her in our own way. Now we had to figure out how to adjust to life without her and make sure she and her son were never forgotten.
