Avery's Side...

Liam gave me a hot tea, set a book beside my bed and left to pick up the kids. All I wanted to do was sleep. Hopefully I could find Kaysen again in my dreams and get some answers to my screwed up feelings.

I woke up about an hour later to little boots stomping off the snow and quiet whispers trying not to wake me. Liam directed the kids into the living room where he put in a movie, then he made popcorn and hot chocolate for everyone but Ruby. 'Mommy? Are you sleeping?' Her sweet voice filled my mind.

'I am not sleeping Sweetness, I am waiting for you to come and see me!'

'Tell Liam to bring me to you please, I want to see you, you are not feeling well.'

'I am fine Honey.' She was so intuitive. "Liam can you bring Ruby to me please?" I called out to the kitchen as loud as my bruised ribs would allow.

"Coming!" He sang out.

He put Ruby into my good arm, rubbed his hands together with an uncomfortable aura about him. "So how are you going to feed her? Is there anything I can do to help?"

I smiled and cringed at the same time, "leave it with me and we will see what we can do first."

"Right," he turned a left the room quickly.

Oh Kaysen where are you now when I need you so badly? 'Daddy is working Mommy, right?'

'Yes Sweetheart, I was just wishing I could see him, that's all.'

'Me too, I want to see my Daddy too.'

I cringed in pain as I tried to pull her up onto my chest. She noticed and put her tiny hand on my broken ribs, 'I can fix the ouchy for you Mommy.'

Pins and needles surged through my rib cage, it was not painful but ticklish in sensation, then she did my arm. Within minutes I was able to pick her up and nurse her with only minor discomfort from the bruises. When we were finished she had fallen asleep in my arms. I got up and put a shirt on then took her to her own bed. Liam was shocked to see me come out of the bedroom. He jumped up off the sofa and stopped in his tracks mid-motion when I smiled and nodded at him. I whispered, "it's okay, I'm good now."

He just nodded and sat down kind of dumbfounded. I didn't say another word about it, but went to the couch and kissed the kids on the head and said good night. Again no dreams filled my mind with the answers to my questions. Instead, I dreamt of Kaysen telling me he loved me in every situation he had ever told me. There were flashes of his beautiful face and luscious lips speaking those endearing words to me over and over all night long.

I wore the sling for a few days and feigned some pain for show really. I told Liam that I did some self healing and it was working for me. It's not that I didn't trust him, it's just that he didn't need to know about Ruby just yet.

He went home and stayed at his place and the kids and I were fine, only Liam wasn't so fine! He missed the kids so much that he asked if he could take them home for a sleepover. Of course I had no problem with that. Ruby and I could have a quiet night at home alone.
