The Final Turn

Chapter: 2

Her muscles relaxed as the warm water hits her body. She's been practicing all day and all week. Barely resting.

Who knew that learning how to shoot guns would be this hard? Cause i for sure didn't. She thought to herself.

Hansoo steps out of the shower and dries herself.

"Hey what's taking so long?" She hears Yeonjun complain. "Damn can you wait?" Hansoo replies as Yeonjun chuckles.

She now puts on her shirt and a very uncomfortable pajama bottom as she opens the shower door. "You look like a clown." Yeonjun tried to hold in his laughter. "Shut up before i blow your head off." Hansoo spits out.

"If you can even aim it on my head then okay, i'll be scared." Yeonjun teases her. "Hey! I can aim properly now you know?" She glares at him.

"Okay okay just move so i can get to the shower will you?" He places his towel over his shoulder as Hansoo gets to her bed.

She lays down on the top bunk and closes her eyes. Tomorrow is the start of their duty. From tomorrow and onwards, they will have to go out and gather supplies and food. Hansoo still doesn't know what to expect.

She and Yeonjun will now live together to serve their community.

Hansoo just slowly drifts to sleep.

Tomorrow

"Hey Hansoo wake up."

A raspy voice woke her up. She sits up and packs up. They both packed in silence. All they can hear are zippers, clothes ruffling with lots of yawns.

"Alright, I'm done" Yeonjun cracked his neck. "Well same as me" Hansoo puts her bag on her back. "I'm ready."

A woman now leads them out. Along with Erica. "Good luck to the both of you." Erica bows as the teens bows back, "Thank you Ms. Erica."

They now walks away and started their duty. "Oh fuck are we really doing this?" Hansoo smiles nervously.

"Yes we really are. Just be alert okay? Erica said that when we step out of this place, its all up to us. Infected people can attack us anytime." Yeonjun reminds her.

His words made Hansoo worry. What if I'm not alert enough? What if I miss? What if Ifail?

Those thoughts rang around her head.

"Erica found us somewhere to stay." Yeonjun walks ahead of her. Signalling her to follow him. "Oh alright! That's good!" Hansoo traced behind the boy.

They were just walking to the place. Because of that, they got to see what their world really turned out.

Fallen buildings everywhere, lots of crashed cars, broken glass and sometimes dead bodies. No one really cleans the place. Hansoo took some deep breaths to calm herself. She needs to get used to it.

But every time she spots corpses, horrific pictures of her family start to flash in front of her eyes. She felt sad and depressed. But also felt anger. Even though the person who killed her family is already dead, she still wanted to get revenge. Which was impossible.

And since she was so deep into her thoughts, she somehow lost Yeonjun. "Shit!" Hansoo looked around for him. There were 3 tunnels in front of her. "Yeonjun?" She called out on each one.

For a good 20 seconds no one answered. "Dammit." Hansoo cursed under her breath. She walked back and forth. Thinking about what to do. "Hansoo?" She heard Yeonjun faintly shout. "Yeonjun?" She looked at the 1st tunnel.

She sees a shadow in the tunnel as she immediately runs towards it.

"Yeonjun!" Hansoo sprints towards the shadow. But something was wrong. It smelled like fungi in that tunnel. Something doesn't feel right. Is this really Yeonjun?

Before Hansoo touches the person in front of her, someone called her.

"HANSOO! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!" She hears Yeonjun scream behind her in horror. She looks up to be greeted by a very angry Runner.

A Runner is a name given for the first stage of the infection. Runners may look somewhat normal, but they can definitely kill you within seconds if they wanted to. Runners may have their eyes white, bad posture, has a foul smell and blood all over them.

Her pupils shrunk in shock.

"RUN!" Yeonjun demanded as Hansoo dashed away which made the Runner run after her. "Cover your ears!" Yeonjun puts Hansoo behind him. His words were followed by gun shots.

They both hear the shrieks of the dying Runner. Yeonjun pointed his gun at it until it died off. Hansoo was still covering her ears.

After it died, he went to Hansoo. "Hansoo! What the fuck were you thinking?" Yeonjun says as he hugs the girl. "I don't fucking know! I was just so deep in my thoughts and lost you! A-And i thought that was you!" Hansoo sat down, still wrapped around Yeonjun's arms.

"Its okay. I just didn't expect for our first encounter to turn out like this." He caressed her back.

After a while, they got up.

"Well.. I guess congratulations on your first kill!" Hansoo claps. "Fuck you" Yeonjun playfully smacks her as they both laugh.

They now continued to walk to their hideout.

After a few hours of walking, they finally arrived safely. "Finally, here we are" Yeonjun sighs in relief. They opened the door and walked in.

The place wasn't bad. But it wasn't good either. It smelled like old books which Yeonjun absolutely loved. It was small and has a lot of cracked walls and cobwebs. But its okay.

"Damn look at this place!" Yeonjun drops their guns and took a deep breath. "Wasn't as bad as i thought i guess." Hansoo's breath hitched as she sat down on the rock-hard sofa.

"What's wrong?" Yeonjun asks while sitting down with her. "Oh..." He let out a laugh as he felt the sofa. They stood up and went to the other side of the room.

There was a bunk bed.

"Just like back in Erica's place." Hansoo smiled as she climbed up the bed. "Its pretty soft eh?" She says as she squeeze the mattress.

Hansoo grabs her bag and sticks the Polaroids to the ceiling. So whenever she feels sad. She just looks up and there they are.

She took out a picture of her and Hoseok on Disney Land. They were both wearing mickey ears which made her giggle. She looks at it for a while and whispers, "I miss you". She kisses the picture and put it up with the rest.

After that, her body stopped. "I did not just do that." Hansoo gagged. "I'm so fucking cheesy."

After they settled in, Yeonjun speaks up, "Hey, Erica just informed me right now that we got something important to do tomorrow." 

"What is it?" Hansoo plops her head down and looks at him from the top bunk. Yeonjun laughs and says,

"We have to clear an area."

"Hold on what? Clear an area?" Hansoo's eyes widened.
