"Coach I don't understand." Adora whine, throwing her hands into the air. "We have a full team, why do we even need to hold a new tryout?"
Shaking her head at Adora, she placed a comforting hand on the stressed out captains shoulder. "They're good cheerleaders Adora, you know that, Catra especially, they would be a good edition to our team."
Shaking her head she plopped herself into the chair across from Angella, as she placed herself lightly into her own. Her team was perfect, of course they didn't have as many members as she'd like, and they lacked flyers, and bases, and a tumbler or two... maybe they did need the ex-horde students, but Adora wasn't prepared to re-face her old squad on a daily basis.

"We don't need them." Adora protested, her fight quickly diminishing.

"Yes Adora, we do."

———

"So?" Glimmer asked, as Adora stepped out from her mums office.
She smiled weakly at her team, Glimmer looking hopeful, Mermista bored, Sea-Hawk anxious, Perfuma happy as always, Netossa and Spinerella supportive, Frosta ready to fight and Bow, Bow seemed to already know what she would say, a disheartened look in his eye as the rest of the squad tried to get closer.
The people in front of her where the most important members of her squad, all her friends, she knew this audition would likely mean nothing for their spots, but the rest of their team would be shaken, or even kicked off.
"We're holding an audition." Adora whispered, dropping her head to her chest. "The Horde students will be attending as will our current squad. There's only two more spots open on the team, the rest will be replaced if needed."
The whole group seemed to deflate, the possibility of no longer being part of the squad dawning on them heavily.

Adora sighed, grabbing ahold of Glimmers hand and pulling her co-captain in for a hug, they had worked so hard with this squad, and it was all about to change.

———

Stepping cautiously into first period, Adora was thankful to see non of her old team in the room.

Staring out the window as she sat in her usual seat, she numbly noticed her English teacher walking in and a body moving beside her.

Tapping on her shoulder about 10 minutes into the class broke her concentration on the willow tree outside.

Turning she was met with mismatched eyes, wild brown hair and a smug grin.

"Hey Adora." Catra whispered, her eyes hardening as Adora failed to return her greeting. "How's your cheer team going? You ready to be shown up tonight?"

Adora scoffed, Catra was always cocky, always up herself, when they where on the same team it was a good confidence boost, but now it was annoying.

"You're not going to be showing anyone up Catra, have fun joining the chess team." Adora said, pulling her arm away from Catra and returning to the window, the feeling of victory settling heavily on her mood.

———

"She really said that?" Glimmer whispered in history, as Adora recounted the events of English to her.

"Yeah, shes very arrogant about them trying out." Adora said, looking toward their teacher who was rattling on about the founding fathers.

Glimmer began chewing on her nails, nerves settling in with the prospect of losing their team hanging over their head like a carrot. Putting a reassuring hand on Glimmers shoulder Adora threw herself into her history work, something she hadn't done in a long time.

"Hey Adora, Glimmer." Bow shouted, waving his hands as he approached the duo. Gesturing towards their usual table, Adora smiled at Perfuma and the rest of their squad as they made their way from the other doors.

Looking towards their table, the best friend squad stopped cold. Sitting at their usual table was the ex-horde students, Catra among them. They cheerleaders all stood there, dumb struck.

"Oh is this you table?" Catra whispered, feigning innocence. She snorted at their faces. "Ours now."

They settled for the grass just outside, all sitting down with a dissatisfied plonk.

"Why couldn't we just, ya know, kick them off?" Mermista asked, her head tilted awkwardly towards Adora.

"Because they would be rude Mermista." Perfuma scolded the blue haired girl, taking a few deep breaths. "Also did you see the tall one? Ooh laa laa."

The whole team sat dumbfounded at Perfumas comment, Adora laughing to herself, of course the tall one would be Perfums type, it just made sense.
