Days turned into weeks. Time was flying by so fast I could barely keep up with what day it is. My days were all the same since we got the news that my dads chemo was no longer working a month ago.
I go to school and then come straight home. Will or Elise usually come and spend the evenings with us and a lot of times they both come. They've even formed a friendship since they both have me in common and spend a lot of time around each other in the three months since Will and I started dating.
"I have an adventure for us today." Will came barreling into the living room where I was laying on the floor on my stomach making a beaded bracelet.
"Will..." I trailed off uneasily.
"Babe you need to get out of the house."
"I don't want to leave my dad." This has been happening a lot over this last month. Will asks me to leave and I say no every single time. I halfway expect him to be mad but he swears he understands.
"He can come with us, the more the marrior. What do you say Tim?" Will shot my dad a dazzling smile.
"I could use some fresh air! Count me in." My dad surprised us both by agreeing to go wherever Will's beautiful brain has in mind for us.
"Put some good shoes on we are going hiking." For the first time Will actually told me where he was taking us.
"Will my dad can't go hiking! Are you insane?!" I jumped to my feet shrieking at my boyfriend like he has lost his damn mind.
"I can and I will! I feel great kiddo. I want to see the outdoors as much as I can. It's been awhile since I've been hiking. Let me go get dressed." My dad sprung out of his chair bolting towards his room. Since quitting chemo he seem stronger, quicker even.
I don't say a word I just make my way towards the stairs taking two at a time until I reached the top. Once inside my room I started to change my clothes. I put on a pair of yoga pants and was looking for a sweatshirt to wear. Winter had turned into Spring so it's not too cold.
"Babe." Will's voice filled my room as I pulled my sweatshirt over my head slipping into it.
"If he gets hurt out there I will personally kick your ass." I warned being one hundred percent serious.
"He won't but on the off chance that he does I will let you do just that." He shot me a smile, one so warm and inviting, a smile so contagious that you can't help but smile as well no matter how damn hard you try.
"Come on kiddos! The day is still young! Let's go! Chop! Chop!' I hear my dad yell from down stairs. I put on a pair of tennis shoes before pulling my hair into a messy bun.
"There you two are! I thought I was going to have to come up there and drag you down here myself!" My eyes bugged out of my sockets seeing my dad in a track suit and a sweatband around his once bald head. His black hair has started growing back since the doctor stopped chemo. Seeing his hair grow back brought me some peace, seeing my dad more energetic than I have seen him in what feels ever brought me a sense of happiness.
"Tim you look great! Let's get a move on it if we want to reach the top of the mountain before the sunset." Will led us outside and towards his car. My dad climbed into the backseat while Will and I got up front. I tried telling my dad to get in the front that I was more than fine with riding in the back but he was not having it.
"Hey I am just happy to be along for the ride!" My dad chimed in from the back seat. Will started his car and suddenly I felt like the third wheel once they started talking about football since I clearly have no sports knowledge.
