"Listen up! Today we are starting our first projects with your partners. I want you to use the items placed on your table the magnets, either the thread or the Play Doh, the sticks and the rings. The objective here is to figure out how to either attract the magnets or to force them apart using only the materials in front of you. In your notebook I want you to list the steps the objective, the hypothesis, the experiment, and the conclusion. Today is just practicing with these materials. Tomorrow we will begin the next part, which is building a model using materials of your own choosing which will be built on your own time. Feel free to talk among yourselves but please keep it at a respectable volume." Mr. Avery went over the steps for our project and handed out our packets before he went to sit at his desk.
"I heard about what Kennedy said to you the other day-" Will leaned in closer to me. I had managed to avoid him since the other day when we were assigned partners. The other classes I share with him we don't talk. He is quieter than I expected though he has girls who flock around him demanding his attention....like Kennedy.
"Save it. You don't owe me an explanation for your girlfriend." I don't look at him as I talk to him which I think he hates but I don't care.
"I don't have a girlfriend." He snorts leaning back on the stool the same way he has the past three days now. Every time I wait for the legs to snap but like every other day they don't.
"She has called dibs on you." I picked up one of the sticks and the Play Doh trying to build a model with the sticks. I rolled two balls out of Play Doh before shoving the stick inside.
"I don't have a girlfriend. That girl won't take no for an answer."
"I don't care." I mumble grabbing one of the bar magnets attempting to attach it to the stick but it was too heavy. Will grabbed the thread and weaved it to the stick effortlessly and the magnet stayed in place which only annoyed me.
"I am not saying that you do. I am just letting you know that I don't have a girlfriend." Will used his knuckles as drums on the tabletop. Seriously this guy is going to give me a migraine.
"Good for you? What do you want me to say?" I grabbed one of the ring magnets and tested our build, it was wobbly for such a weak magnet so I pulled more thread and weaved it around the thread he just tightened.
"You don't have to say anything as long as you know."
"Noted. So we have to make a model using other materials outside of school and my dad wants to meet you."
"You told him about me?" The shock on his face was alarming. What does he think I told him?
"That you're my partner, yes." I nod and realization comes to his face and he nods.
"Sure we can meet at your place tomorrow let's say five?" He suggests and that's perfect because that gives me time to get home and help do my afternoon routine with dad which is usually helping him to the bathroom and picking up his room. He usually throws a fit and says he will do it but he doesn't have the strength plus it's just easier to do it for him than it is to watch him struggle doing it. I learned that the hard way one day when he said he could do it himself and he almost lost his balance but was able to grab onto the dresser to sturdy himself.
"Okay I will text you my address." The bell rang so I quickly took our model apart shoving my notebook that I was scribbling my notes for the project in.
"I hope you are ready to spend some one on one time with me Davis. I am one step closer to getting through that thick skin of yours. My next goal is to make you smile." He winks before bolting out of the room. The walk to my next class is anything but peaceful. I am not ready to spend any time with Will. Matter of fact I am dreading it. I already see the guy like sixty percent of my day, the last thing I need is more time with him and to make it worse we won't be at school we will be at my house. Where my dad wants to talk to him...about God only knows what.
