Asura and Armin ran as fast as their legs could carry them as the Titans devoured people left and right.
Asura clutched his broken shoulder as he ran, grimacing as he did. He hated being so helpless right now, but with everything going to hell all he could do was get Armin and himself to safety.
The two heard a woman scream as she was picked up. The screaming only died as the Titan ate her. Armin was shocked, but Asura dragged him along.
"We have to keep moving, Armin!" He yelled. "Look! The inner gate's straight ahead!"
The two were approached by a Titan that eyed the two, and Asura threw Armin towards the gate as he dodged the Titan about to grab him.
"ASURA!" Armin screamed.
"DON'T WORRY ABOUT ME, JUST GET TO THE BOATS!" Asura ordered.
Asura ran away from the Titan as it gave chase after him.
Meanwhile, Hannes kept running to the inner gate as Eren looked in the direction of his destroyed house with a shell shocked expression.
He snapped out of it, and vented his grief on Hannes by hitting him in the head.
Hannes stopped in his tracks. "What are you doing Eren?" He asked.
"Why'd you do that!? We were so close to saving Mom!" Eren yelled. "WHY COULDN'T YOU MIND YOUR OWN DAMN BUSINESS!" He hit Hannes in head again with his elbow.
"That's enough dammit!" Hannes snapped. He grabbed Eren's arm and threw him to the ground.
"Eren!" Mikasa exclaimed. She started to wriggle out of Hannes's grasp before running to check on Eren.
"Eren." He said. "You couldn't save your mother... because you lacked the strength."
Eren just growled and threw a punch at the soldier who just caught it.
"And I..." He continued. "Couldn't stand up to the Titan... because I lacked the courage!"
Tears fell from Hannes's eyes, surprising Eren. He had never seen a grown man cry before.
Hannes stood up and took the two's hands and walked to the inner gate.
They weren't safe yet.
"I'm sorry..." He said sadly.
Eren started sobbing quietly as the three went to the inner gate.
Mikasa put her hand on her head as the memories of her dead parents flashed briefly before her.
(It happened again.) She thought.
Asura rounded a corner but stopped in his tracks. "Dammit! A dead end!" He hissed.
When he tried to double back, the Titan that was chasing him blocked off the alley's entrance.
Cornered, and out of options, Asura brought his hand to his mouth. "You're gonna have to fight for your food this time." He said lowly.
Before he bit his hand though, two figures slashed the Titan's nape, destroying it and killing the thing.
The figures landed on the roof of one of the houses, and looked at Asura.
"Mom! Dad!" He exclaimed.
Adam and Maria spotted Hannes as he was approaching the inner gate.
Maria grabbed her son and the two Scouts headed to Hannes and landed in front of them.
"Adam, Maria." He said.
"Hannes, take the children and get them on a boat." Maria told him.
Hannes nodded, and moved to Asura.
