Chapter Seventeen: Cries of a Beast with Nothing To Lose

Asura landed on the ground, a cool look adorned his face. He wasn't taking chances, and watched the Female Titan like a Hawk.

(She won't be struggling out of that any time soon.) He thought. (Now that you're trapped I definitely recognize your scent. But, that again makes no sense. Unless you're someone I know. Christa? No. She couldn't even hurt a fly. It couldn't be, could it? Maybe... It may be...)

"Good job Asura." Erwin said.

(Damn it! There it goes again!) Asura shouted in thought.

"Start heading to Levi Squad. Levi, make sure to restock on gas and blades before you go."

(Erwin's little gambit paid off. But it came at a very high price.) Asura added in thought. (I hope it was worth it.)

Asura then ran to where Levi Squad was at the moment. All the while a nagging feeling kept gnawing at his thoughts.

The Female Titan's capture seemed a bit too easy.

Stopping, he made his way back to Erwin and the rest of the Survey Corps, and made it in time to see one of her tricks.

When Levi's blades made contact with her nape, they shattered upon contact on her skin. A crystalline material was covering her one weakness which was protected by her hands.

(Well now. That's an interesting ability.) He thought. (She can Harden her skin to either protect herself... or enhance her attacks. I wonder why she didn't use this Hardening power when she fought me. If she had, then the plan wouldn't have worked.)

Suddenly, the Female Titan let out a loud scream that echoed throughout the forest and beyond, leaving Asura terrified.

(That scream.) He thought. (The cry of a creature with nothing to lose. She's drawing Titans to her. Hange! Erwin!)

Titans rushed through the forest, ignoring the Scouts and Asura as they began to latch onto the Female Titan. Eating her.

"The Titans..." Erwin said. "They're devouring her. ALL TROOPS! KILL THE TITANS! DON'T LET THEM EAT HER!"

Asura rushed in and bit a Titan's nape before tearing it off, and slashed another with his claws, taking its head off, as the Scouts tried their best to kill the Titans.

But there were simply too many.

Realizing this, Erwin closed his eyes.

"RETREAT!" He shouted. "WE'RE RETURNING TO STOHESS DISTRICT!"

The Feral Titan killed another Titan before he looked at the Female Titan, frustrated.

(Damn you, bitch.) He seethed. (You planned this so we couldn't find out your identity!)

Asura spotted something emerge from the Titan's nape and head into the treeline. However, he couldn't make out who they were.

He ran to find Eren and the Levi Squad, knowing whoever left that Titan would likely go after them for him.

Elsewhere, Mikasa was moving through the forest, worried about Eren due to the scream.

(Eren.) She thought.

Meanwhile, Eren and Levi Squad were heading out to meet with Levi, unaware of what had happened. Gunther landed on a tree branch and spotted a green flare, assuming it was Levi, and directed the others following to head that way.

The one who fired the flare saw the response flared and headed their way, not knowing the Feral Titan was searching for Levi Squad as well.

Asura saw the two flares and ran as fast as he could in the dense forest, hoping to catch up to Levi Squad before it was too late.
