Y/N'S POV:
"Looks like the Fire Ferrets have ferreted out a last minute replacement waterbender. Let's see if she's another diamond in the rough like the brothers from the school of hard knocks!"
I lean over the railing in excitement, smiling wide. Just something about the energy of this place makes me fill up with joy. I didn't get much excitement at my previous home like this lets just say. Korra's uniform clearly doesn't fit her, making her adjusting it a few times. Mako says something to her, and with her response her helmet falls down. 'Hopefully the huge uniform doesn't affect her skills.' I think to myself.
"Players, are you ready?"
I return to the match, my worry going away and my excitement coming back.
*WHISTLE BLOWS*
Korra quickly takes her right leg and shoots a wave of water at the other side, knocking their waterbender out of the ring. I facepalm. Mako and Bolin clearly didn't have time to explain the rules with the last minute recruiting of Korra, but watching one match makes it kinda clear where you knock them out.Mako facepalms as well, and Korra cheers in a circle.
"Man overboard!"
The ref whistles again. "Fire Ferret waterbender, penalty! Move back one zone!" Korra looks at the ref with confusion. "What? Why?" Mako walks towards Korra. "You're only allowed to knock players off the back of the ring! Not over the sides!" He motions to the sides he's talking about. "Oh, whoops." Korra says and then looks in my direction. I give her a soft smile and mouth "its all good." She smiles back and gets back to the game.
The players get back in their positions and the match starts. Korra shoots a water stream to the other side, but gets knocked back by an earth coin. I grit my teeth. "And we're back in action after that hiccup, but I'm not so sure this replacement player knows what she's doing." I roll my eyes. Well, duh. When she gets her balance back, her foot hits the line.
*Whistle blow* "Foul! Over the line! Move back to zone three!"
"I'll show you over the line!" I sigh and come up with the talk I'm gonna have with her after.
"The Platypus Bears take round one!" The other team focuses all of their hits on her. "The Platypus Bears know a green player when they see one, and they are focusing the brunt of their bending on this poor girl!" She attempts to block all of them with her water.
"Come on Korra! you can do this!" I cheer her on. She can't do anything else stupid like knocking a guy off the wrong side? Right?
Boy was I wrong.
She got frustrated and used the earth coins to block the attacks. "Korra I love you to death and will do anything for you, but you're an idiot." I say my thoughts out loud as my hand makes contact with my face. Maybe they didn't notice?
"Wait a minute! Did that waterbender just earthbend?"
Damn it.
The whole crowd gasps. "Yeah we're screwed." I sigh. There is no way Tenzin wont find out. "Foul! I...think." Korra lets out a nervous laugh and makes eye contact with me again. She gives me an "I messed up" smile. I softly smile and shake my head. That's the Korra I know and love. The helmet falls on her head again. Mako shakes his head in annoyance. He looks where Korra is looking and we lock eyes. I give him an "I'm sorry" smile and his expression softens, returning with his own smile.
"Did I see that right? Hold on, folks, we're just waiting for the referee's official call, but ... I-I think this replacement player could be ... no, there's no way! You've gotta be kidding me! She's the Avatar, folks! Playing in a pro-bending match! Can you believe that?" Realizing that this will definitely be on the radio, I think of a way to make Tenzin not wanna lock us up in the temple forever.
