The Crain house was terrifying. Even more terrifying than Devyn had pictured it when Big John used to tell her and John B stories of it as kids. The house had a creepy aura emitting from it, one that did not sit well with the black-haired girl at all. The porch wood was creaky, meaning they had to be careful about where they stepped. When the girls realized the circuit breaker was not in fact on the porch, but instead, the wires ran inside the house, Devyn Keoka just about died on the spot. Kiara had thrown open the front door, the three girls creepily as silently as possible into the house.
Devyn jumped at the sound of a cat yowling, gasping as she looked down and saw it rubbing up against her legs.
"Hi, kitty!" Devyn whispered lovingly to the cat, picking it up without thinking. It nestled into her touch as she carried it in her arms during their search for the breaker box.
"Really?" Sarah giggled when she saw Devyn holding the old orange cat that was snuggled into her chest.
"Put the axe murderer's cat down, Devyn," Kiara whispered harshly as Devyn gasped at her offendedly.
"So, what? When I see a cat I'm just not supposed to pick it up?" Devyn scoffed, petting the cat's head, whose name tag read Leon.
"Yes!" Kiara exclaimed quietly, shaking her head in disbelief.
"Sorry for having a soul," Devyn rolled her eyes, although she made no move to set Leon down, petting between his ears.
"Here it is," Kiara whispered, rolling her eyes when she realized Devyn never put the cat down, the black haired girl sticking out her tongue at the Cerrera girl.
"I don't know which one to press," Sarah snapped softly, before shrugging and flipping all of the switches off.
The three girls gasped at the sound of wheezing, before a clanking noise filled their ears, almost like a cane. They pressed themselves flat against the wall as more thumping was heard, Devyn's eyes widening at the sound of a cracked cough.
"Shit," Devyn whispered, looking down as Leon fell asleep in her arms.
"It's...it's late, Leon," a raspy voice called out through the darkness, the girls beginning to panic as Mrs. Crain clambered down the stairs. "I can hear you, Leon."
Devyn slapped a hand over her mouth, holding the orange cat in her other as her heart pounded in her chest.
"I've been waiting all night!" Mrs. Crain snarled, turning to face the three girls, resulting in them screaming and running away.
"Go!" Kie yelled, shoving Devyn as they ran to a different room.
"Leon!" Mrs. Crain screeched blindly as the girls ran for their lives.
"I'm gonna kill myself," Devyn growled lowly, losing sight of Sarah as her and Kie dashed behind a door.
They found themselves in a small dining room, backs against the door.
