Once Pope and Kiara were finished with the discussion and diversion at Tannyhill, things were weirdly tense between the two of them. Devyn could immediately tell that something had happened between them— something bad. Her and JJ were still on cloud nine from their confession, but hid their delirious happiness well, not wanting to rub it in their faces.

After a long debate, the group of four wound up spending the night at The Wreck after realizing that they truly had no other options.

The morning sun awoke Devyn, causing the girl to blink the sleep out of her tired eyes, a warm glow settling over the inside of the restaurant. Everyone was still asleep, and the clock on the wall showed that it was almost ten. Pope had wound up sleeping on top of a table, his mood irrationally angry anytime someone tried to talk to him. Kiara had fallen asleep on a bench, and Devyn and JJ had retired in a small booth, one which she was currently peeling herself out of.

It was a bit of an endeavor to get herself out of JJ's grip, but once she had, she sat on the patio outside, running her fingers over the healing stitches in her shoulder, courtesy of Crazy Crain. It wasn't long before someone joined her, and while she was expecting her blonde, she was delighted to see Pope settling down next to her wordlessly.

The two sat in silence for a moment, both looking out at the peaceful morning tide.

"Do you wanna talk about it or do you want a distraction?" Devyn asked softly, brown eyes full of understanding as Pope glanced over at her.

His resolve melted away at the look on her face, knowing that she would be the most patient and responsive out of his friends.

He let out a heavy sigh as he wiggled further into his seat, kicking his feet out on the table in front of him.

"I told her I loved her and she practically blew me off," Pope whispered. "No, she did blow me off."

Devyn digested his words for a moment, reaching out and taking his hand with her own. She ran her fingers over his knuckles soothingly as she thought about her next words.

"I'm sorry, Pope. We haven't talked about it before, but I know that she loves you. It just might not be in the way you want her to," she paused for a moment. "I think she's just scared."

"Scared of what?" Pope scoffed in disbelief, although her words did make him feel slightly better.

"Scared of ruining everything," Devyn drew shapes on the back of his hand. "Of fucking up the friendship. Take it from me, it can be really fucking scary."

Pope simply listened to her words as he bit back tears.

"I think that you should talk to her once you've had some time to process, talk to her when you're sober. It's okay to be upset, but you can't change how Kie feels. I know it hurts, just know I'm here no matter what happens," Devyn smiled softly at him. "And I know you probably don't want to talk about it, but I'm so sorry about your scholarship. You risked everything for us, and I don't want you to think it went unnoticed."
