It all happened so fast.
Those words played on a never ending loop in Devyn Keoka's head.
It all happened so fast.
It truly had. One minute, they were at a pawn shop, and the next, her brother's boyfriend was holding them at gunpoint. The next chain of events passed by like a blur that she couldn't quite make out; the world was moving fast and she was moving slow and she simply couldn't keep up with the chaos that was ensuing.
The panic that gripped her was relentless, unwavering, like a weight on her chest that was pushing her far, far below the surface. Her chest was tight, the ringing in her ears making her unable to make out the words of her friends, unable to truly feel John B's hands on her face, trying and failing to desperately jerk her back to reality.
In a small part of her brain, she knew what was going on. She knew JJ was driving the van, his knuckles white on the wheel as his mouth firmly shut in a scowl, refusing to listen to anyone. She knew Kiara was screaming at him to stop the van, to take them back to the Chateau, to not let this situation get even more out of hand. She knew Sarah was still crying from the events that happened minutes before. She knew Pope was trying to talk some sense into the blonde haired hot-head who refused to listen to anyone. She knew she was in John B's lap, who was relentlessly trying to bring her out of her panic attack, her chest heaving and her breath wheezing tightly.
The thing that Devyn knew without a doubt, was that she was dead.
She wasn't dead yet, but she was sure she would be soon. Alex was going to kill her. If she thought the moments leading up to now had been bad, she knew she was going to be in a world of pain. She was dead. And at this moment, she wasn't sure if it was a blessing or a curse.
The van came to a screeching halt, one that almost sent Devyn flying out of John B's firm grip.
"Welcome to Crackhead Wasteland," Sarah mumbled, her eyes red and puffy, although she had finally managed to regain her composure.
JJ parked the Mystery Machine in front of the all-too-familiar white trailer, causing bile to rise in Devyn's throat, her body beginning to shake once more in John B's lap.
"Dude, we're not going into Barry's," John B stated firmly, running his good hand up and down Devyn's arms in an attempt to soothe her to no avail.
"This'll only take a second," JJ affirmed, getting out of the driver's seat and stomping into the house without a second glance at the people he was leaving behind.
