I opened my eyes and saw Sam lying beside me. I smiled and prepped her face in kisses, waking her up.
“Happy birthday sweetie.” I hugged her.
“Thank you mommy.” She grinned.
“Let’s get something to eat.” I went out of the bunk and Sam came out after me. I took her hand and led her into the kitchen. I opened a banana and passed it to her. I then made a quick bowl of cereal for the both of us. “Here you go.”
We talked a little while we ate. I cleaned up our bowls and went into the lounge with Sam. We were still driving to Texas but we would arrive in about three hours so I was just thinking we would watch movies until then.
“What do you want to watch?” I asked her.
She stood up and walked over to the DVD folder, picking it up and bringing it to the sofa. She flipped through the Disney section and pointed at Lion King. “This one?”
“Sure.” I took the disc and placed it in the player, sitting back down beside her.
When Simba and Nala were singing, she was dancing on the sofa. Then a pair of arms wrapped around her and she screamed.
“Happy birthday princess.” Lauren kissed her nose and put her down. Sam hugged Lauren then sat back down. “Good morning.” Lauren pecked my lips then went to get something to eat.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” yelled four girls that came out of their bunks. Sam giggled when Dinah picked her up and the girls took her in a group hug. The girls scattered around the living room, Sam between them.
Lauren walked back in and sat beside me, placing an arm around my shoulders. Sam looked at us and furrowed her brow then returned her attention to the girls.
“So how does it feel to be four?” Mila grinned.
Sam just shrugged her shoulders. “Same.”
“You look bigger.” Dinah said. “C’mon, stand up.” Sam stood up on the sofa and Dinah poked her stomach, making her giggle. “See, you’re bigger than me.”
Sam sat back down and kept watching the movie. Throughout it, when she got scared, she would hold Demi’s and Dinah’s hands or burrow her head in their sides.
It wasn’t exactly the best feeling in the world to see her rely on them and not me but I pushed the feeling at the back of my head. Instead I snuggled more into Lauren and watched the movie.

“Girls, we’re here.” The driver told us. We thanked him and went to get dressed.
My mom had texted me and said where they were so we went to meet them. Sam didn’t know that though.
Sam was walking beside me, holding my hand and swinging it back and forth. She stopped when we entered the park and ran straight ahead. I was really thankful that there was almost no one there.
“Nana!” she yelled and jumped into my mother’s arms. I smiled at the sight and walked up to them too while the girls walked behind me. I quickly said hi to everyone, my mom, dad, and Brandon, and hugged them.
We all sat at the picnic table and Sam sat on my lap.
“So how’s tour been?” Mom asked and looked between me and the girls.
“It’s been great.” I said.
“Wonderful but exhausting.” Demi said and chuckled.
“True.” The girls laughed.
