[20] Fate

"He's overfatigued." The doctor shortly stated when Nayeon asked what happened to her best friend.

She took a glance at Jin who is unconsciously lying down.

"He needs a full rest. Fatigue is a symptom of an underlying condition and based on the examination done, he is totally lethargic and exhausted. He probably struggled sleep deprivation too that causes his immune system to suffer."

"How long will he stay here?"

"His condition is not that serious as there were no signs of other possible illness that causes his fatigue, so probably he won't stay long. After regaining enough strength he can already be discharged but it is still recommended to let him have a full break. He lost a lot of energy."

"Okay Dr. Corbyn, thank you." She bowed and the doctor left.

She stares at her best friend, "I'm sorry." She whispered.

She felt guilty. She literally went to his office not only to hand a certain document but also with the intention to confront and bombard the guy with questions not knowing he is suffering. That explains why the guy is not responding because her many words can't seem to process his mind. He is very preoccupied and worn out at that moment.

She flinched when the door opened.

"What happened?" Jihyo immediately asks upon arriving.

She told her everything, except the fact that they kissed.

Jihyo just crossed her arms feeling sorry for what happened to Jin.

"I am in the middle of a conference when his secretary called me. Hays, Jin really." Jihyo sighed.

"Good thing I already instructed Jisoo-ssi to cancel all his meetings and all his upcoming appointments. I'll give him a break so he can totally rest himself before going back to work." She stated.

"Can you reach out his girlfriend? She needs to be here but I don't know how to--"

"He doesn't have a girlfriend, Nayeon. I can't believe Jin still didn't tell you about that."

"What?!" She faces her in disbelief.

"He spent his life with you and you believe that? Though I can't blame you because I was also convinced he has but he told me he never had one."

"Did you mean..." She processes everything in her mind, "Wh-why? Why did he lie?"

Jihyo shrugs her shoulder. "Not a thing for me to tell."

She looks at her sleeping best friend.

"There are many answers I want to hear from you and now you just added another question in my head. I wonder how many more things you are not telling me." She muttered, looking intently at the sleeping alpaca.

"There's a lot he never told you actually but again, I don't have the right to tell."

"You mean you know something? Park Jihyo, what do you know? Did you guys talk behind me?"

"We did talk, but it isn't something bad about you of course." She shook her head, "Tsk, tsk. I feel bad for the both of you actually. Like for real."

"I don't understand."

"You always don't understand, Nayeon-ah. Maybe that's why questions linger in your head." Jihyo said, "Wait-- isn't it a perfect opportunity for you to ask him everything if he will take a break?"

"What do you mean?"

"You said the doctor recommended him to unwind and get a full rest. I'm giving him maybe two weeks to have a short break, he will regain strength and you, Im Nayeon, will accompany him."

"What the hell?"

"Yah! I know Jin very well. I know for sure he will just stay at home doing nothing if I'll give him a break, or worse he'll just work again. How can he recover if that will be the case right? Aren't you concern about your best friend?"

"Of course I'm concern. What specific thing you want me to do for him?"

"Accompany him to all the things he needs to do. If the doctor will say he needs to have some physical activities, then go. You know, small little things you can do for him. You also have to regulate his diet, if he--"

"You're just simply saying I will be his nurse and stay with him, right? Are you insane?"

"He has done everything for you. Why can't you?" Jihyo said defending Jin.

"But Park Jihyo I am married! What will my husband think about it huh?"

"If Jinyoung trusts you, he won't mind. You will just clearly help your best friend and that's it."

"We're planning our vacation too, if he finalizes everything we'll fly right away. I don't think I can do it."

"Okay. It's up to you." Jihyo said defeated.

Jihyo knows everything since Jin told her. She wants their feelings to be communicated. She feels really really bad for them and she doesn't know who to blame.

Is it Nayeon who didn't confess not knowing that the guy is in love with her?

Or is it Jin who also didn't confess all throughout the years because of his lack of courage?

Well, maybe fate played with them.
