Thursday.Another practice day.
We've been practicing for the last one month for the basketball competition against CIGs and everything seems to be going pretty good.
Every member of the team were putting so much effort into practice. Especially the girls. Yes, the girls. CIGs declared a mixed competition between both schools.
Both genders trained on their own for a while before merging to form a team. Of course we took it easy on the ladies because we the guys could get a bit rough. And so far, everyone was getting along pretty well.
"My boy Matt!" A feminine voice called. I turned back to see Yewande running towards me.
"Dude." I called back with a grin.
"I am not a dude jackass."
Yewande and her sister are the girliest tomboys you'll ever see. The pair are athletes, popular not only in Nigeria, but also Internationally.
As members of the under 18 women basketball team, they have represented Nigeria in many international competitions, even the Olympics.
These two have wined and dined with the likes of Lebron James, and even the late Kobe Bryant, the William Sisters, many other sports celebrities you can think of. They've also modeled for sports brands like Nike, Addidas, Puma and the likes.
I wish I was that accomplished.
"You should be used to that name by now."
"Sorry, I'm not."
"Then you better cause we'll never stop calling you dude." She rolled her eyes at me, then the left corner of her lips curved up a bit and I suddenly doubled over in pain. Yewande punched me right in the gut. It was nothing like those butterfly punches girls give. This one sent me down on my knees.
"I'm not a dude Matthew. I'll aim for your balls next time." She warned and I laughed even through the pain.
I knew she was messing with me. Obviously.
She held out her hand for me so she could help me up. I took it and she pulled me up then gave me a pat on my shoulder. A pat that felt more like a slap.
"Tell my sister to wait for me. We'll address the girls together. Jackass." She smirked.
"Sure thing dude." I replied and she flipped her middle finger at me then walked away. I laughed and walked off to meet the rest of the team.
After an hour of practice, our coach Sir TJ finally gave us a short break, but some chose to keep practicing. I grabbed my water bottle and went to the bleachers where Kesiena was seated watching us. She was supposed to train with us, so I had no idea why she was seated.
I sat beside her and took a swig.
"Hey." She faced me and I was taken aback by the way her face looked really dull. Too dull for one's liking.
"You okay?" I asked with concern laced in my voice.
She looked away and leaned back into the chair."Yeah, I'm fine."
"You've been looking down since yesterday and you didn't join us down there."
"I'm sick." She quietly said. Her voice even sounded frail.
