Stepping out of the car and walking into the school compound made me so nervous like it was my first day here, even though its just the second week of a new session.

Everyone still looked fresh, like we just resumed today. But I know by next week, the smiles on everyone's faces would have disappeared. That's when you'll begin to see actual walking corpses. When it comes to stressing the heck out of students, Forrester would bag first place over and over again.

"Kes!" A familiar voice called out and I turned back to see my male best friend walking towards me.

"Benjiii." I greeted him once he got to me and he pulled me into his embrace.

"Why are you hugging me like you're just seeing me for the first time in 3 months?"

"Because 2 days are enough to miss you." He patted my cheeks with a smile.

Benjamin Odiase.

The first soul to speak to me when I was newly admitted into Forrester as a Jss2 student. My first year as an actual secondary school student. I had been homeschooled throughout Jss1 due to certain reasons.

First day was dreadful for me. It was terrible infact.

No one wanted to talk to me, then I got taunted by some stupid boys who turned out to be my classmates. It was Benji who actually spoke to me like we had known each other for years.

"And where is my hug?"

We turned to see the Zino standing with folded arms, and a small scowl on her face.

"There's more to go around you angry bird." Benji replied her as she approached us. Benji made his move to hug her, but got slightly punched in the gut. The boy groaned, holding his belly.

"That's for calling me angry bird."

"Kesiena!" She called in a sing song voice and now sporting a bright smile as she hugged me. I on the other hand winced, and placed my hands over my ears. This girl doesn't just know when and how to reduce her volume.

I placed my palms on her chest, creating a little distance between us. "Please do not deprive me of whatever little hearing ability I have left."

I grew up with the knowledge that I'm partially deaf, or what's that word given to me by my doctor to make me feel better about my disability?

Yes. Hearing impaired.

Hearing impaired or partially deaf. All I know is that I have a disability and twisting the name didn't make me feel any better about it.

Zino giggled then placed a peck on my cheek as her sign of apology.

"I have something for you but I'll give it to you once we get to class."

"Me nko?" Benji who had recovered from Zino's assault asked.  Zino sized him up with her eyes before answering him.
Her sudden hostility was quite surprising, but I shrugged it off at nothing.

"Where's Laide?" She asked me, totally ignoring Benji.
The boy muttered some incoherent words beside me and I shook my head in amusement at the two.
