chapter 39

Maddy opened her eyes. she had had a peaceful sleep. she glanced round. hang on, this wasn't her room. where was she? she started to panic. had mclaggen finally got her. she sat up slowly. Joshua was lying next to her on the bed. he was still sleeping. she laid back down and watched his chest which rose with every breath he took. she looked up into his face. his fringe was over his eyes. she reached her hand up and brushed it away.

"you awake Maddy?"

she looked across the room as Thaddeus was sitting up. his blonde hair all ruffled.

"yep, I'm awake" she replied.

"josh awake?"

"nah still sleeping"

silence fell over them. Maddy slowly sat up and swung her legs over the bed. she stood up and stretched. "I better get to the house. otherwise katelin will wonder where I am"

"alright .... see you later" Thaddeus replied.

she smiled at him and flew out the door. she ran down towards the house and silently crept up into her bedroom, her bare feet padding softly on the fluffy carpet. she heard a door open from behind her. she stopped. what should she do? she began to run silently to her room. she had just closed the door behind her when she heard katelins Canadian accent fill the hallway.

"you up miss Madeline?" she knocked on the door.

she tried to sound natural. her heart was pounding in her chest. "yeah, I'm awake"

"good, why don't you come down to the kitchen and have some breakfast hm?"

"I'll help you prepare. let me get dressed" Maddy went to wardrobe and pulled down a blouse and a skirt. she pulled them on, feeling the warmth of the material. she went to her mirror and brushed her hair till it shone. then she braided it down her back. she checked her reflection one more time and hurried out the door to the kitchen.

"hey heyes? you awake?"

"uh, oh yeah. I'm awake" heyes replied. "no thanks to you" he muttered under his breath.

"I heard that" kid replied.

"good"

heyes looked at his bed and asked his partner one question. "where is she?"

"huh? who? Maddy? she's gone to the house. she woke up about half an hour ago"

"oh okay"

"shall we train the last two mustangs today. well... when I say train I mean try and train them. they both really do hate us. well the last one decided to bite me" kid continued his little rant.

"haha,  yeah. I don't blame the horse for biting you. you were being horrible to her" heyes pulled on his shirt and started to button it.

kid gave him that look that only kid curry would do. it normally meant 'pay back is definitely going to happen'

the boys arrived in the kitchen just as Maddy was finishing her breakfast.

"good morning" she said. she gave Joshua her most dazzling smile.

"good morning" the boys replied in unison. they looked at each other and mouthed the word 'jinx'

"I'm going to go and help katelin with some housework. see you later" she kissed Joshua on the cheek and gave Thaddeus a quick hug before dashing out the door.

"what you smiling at?" Thaddeus asked.

"oh nothing" Joshua replied.

" sure its nothing heyes. you just have an attraction to the kitchen which makes you smile a lot" he said sarcastically.
