Maddy had spent hours getting ready for the barn dance. At first she didn't know what clothes to wear, then she didn't know what to do with her hair. She hadn't eaten at all , complaining of nausea. everybody had thought it was just nerves because of the dance but actually she was feeling sick that it was the last full day she had being normal with the boys and then ..... from tomorrow she leads them to mclaggen.

She looked at her reflection in the mirror. She had chosen her hair to be in curls which cascaded down her back in ringlets. Her fringe was pushed to the side and curled at the end. She had chosen a lovely red silk gown with white lining. It was one of the fine dresses Mr mcCreedy had purchased for her. She loved the way it floated just above the floor and when she moved it seemed to glide along with her. She wore a pair of red gloves that reached to her elbows which felt soft to her skin.

It was only 6:00pm. The dance wasn't for another two hours but at least she was ready. She knew exactly what she was wearing and how she was going to wear her hair. She smiled into the mirror at her reflection. She hoped Joshua loved the way she looked.

"Hello, don't mind me"

In the reflection in the mirror she could see katelin. she was wearing a purple gown with pink lining. She too wore purple gloves that reached her elbows. Her hair was piled on top of her head in ringlets. She had a flower clipped into her hair at the front.

Maddy turned round to face her friend. "Oh! You look beautiful" Maddy exclaimed.

"Awh thanks, you look more beautiful. I bet Joshua won't be able to resist you" katelin hugged her friend.

"And Thaddeus won't be able to resist you!" Maddy giggled.

"What? Huh ... there's nothing going on between er... "she laughed nervously.

"Oh pleease"March giggled. "That boy is head over heels for you and you for him!"

Katelins face lightened up. " you think?"

"Oh yes,Definitely" Maddy laughed.

An expression passed over katelins face which didn't go unnoticed by maddys eyes. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing its just .... I'm eight years older then Thaddeus. It would seem improper and what if the age gap scares him away?"

"Oh katelin" she pulled her friend into her embrace." I'm sure he won't leave you because of the age gap. If he's like Joshua which is probably very likely, he wont care about the age gap. He will love you because of you, age doesn't matter."

"You think?" Katelin said.

"Definitely" Maddy grinned.

Katelin smiled back. "Oh! I forgot. There was a reason for me wanting to come here. I wanted to give you this" she held out a necklace which had a red heart at the bottom. It glistered in the light.

"Oh katelin" Maddy said. "Is that really for me?" She took the necklace into her hands.

"Yes, call it a friendship necklace before you go away tomorrow"

Maddy inspected the necklace closely. It was trully beautiful. "Thank you so much katelin"

Katelin nodded. "Promise me something?"

"Anything"

"Promise me you will never forget me. When you leave tomorrow and I will never see you again"

The sadness in katelins eyes caused Maddy to want to cry. She hated goodbyes. "Of course I will never forget you. You're my best friend"

"Best friends forever?"
