chapter 44

"howdy kid"

"hi Kyle."he paused. he was going to have to talk. "you were in on this weren't you?"

Kyle's smile faded. "yes and no"

"tell me"

"he told us to separate you both. just separate that was all. you're our friends and we regretted what we did but you see they had wheats sister. and he was all for doing what we had to. so we separated you both. he felt horrible afterwards. but that's all we know. he never told us to do anything else and he never said he was going to hurt either of you" Kyle replied. he looked down at the ground.

kid didn't say anything for a while. "but if mclaggen just said separate us why did you shoot heyes? it left him unconscious for a couple of days and lots of pain"

"that was an accident. it was me I think. I didn't mean to .. it was to just get him away from us. before he came we were deciding on telling you both but .... when he came we lost the guts to so to try and save him from us we just tried shooting him out but one of my shots missed the point it was meant to hit and hit heyes instead. I'm so sorry kid" Kyle replied.

kid looked at Kyle and the rest. they looked like that have been caught looking up the little girls skirts at school. he smiled slightly. "I forgive you. I'm sure heyes does as well" he indicated with his head towards the gang. "what are they like?"

"horrible and very smelly" wheat said.

"I noticed" kid replied. the corners of his mouth twitched slightly into a smile but then it disappeared when a blood curdling scream filled the silence around them. 

heyes!?" kid shouted. he struggled at his bonds that bound his wrists. "what are they doing to him?"

Kyle shrugged. " must be a lot to cause him to scream. I was just about to say after you said you noticed that they aren't very kind. they aren't afraid to cut him so many times to get what they want"

"thanks Kyle. you tell me this now!?" kid fought desperately with his bonds.

"sorry"

the silence was once again filled up around them by heyes shouting "I don't know what you're talking about!" then another blood curdling scream.

kid sighed in frustration as the ropes round his wrists didn't move but cut deeply into his flesh, burning him.

"I need to get to him!"with every  word kid said he fought with his bonds.

"That diamond is mine how did you get it!?" Mclaggen hissed.

Heyes was laying on the ground, mclaggens hands pinning his arms to the floor. Mclaggens face was inches from heyes'. Mclaggens legs pinning heyes' waist and legs to the ground.

Heyes whimpered. "I didn't take any diamond! Please!"

"I don't believe it!" Mclaggen leaned over slightly to heyes' right arm. He sliced heyes' sleeve up to his elbow with his knife.

"Last chance. What did you do with the diamond!?"

"I don't know what you're talking about!" Heyes cried.

"I don't believe you" mclaggen pulled out a knife and brought it to heyes' lower arm. He pierced his skin and thrusted the point of the knife into his arm. He pulled it through, causing blood to drip down  heyes' arm. Heyes began to scream and thrust about under mclaggens weight. He tried to pull his arm away from mclaggen but he was to strong.

"Now, what did you do with that diamond! It belongs to me!" Mclaggen leaned in again ,His face inches from heyes. "Tell me!" Mclaggen grabbed heyes by the shoulders and shook him. Heyes had tears in his eyes but he refused to let them go.
