AFTER DINNER THAT NIGHT, Newt showed Tessa where she would be sleeping. They had set up a small room, just for her and the box of things that was sent up for her.
There was a few outfits and a pair of shoes—
and a stuffed elephant
"Ah, I see you've found the things the box sent up for you" Alby entered and Tessa nodded "Well, get some sleep tonight and we will see what you can do tomorrow" "Okay" She said
Tessa couldn't sleep so she stepped out of her room and saw light coming from a building. So she slowly made her way over to it and stopped when she heard voices coming form inside
"What are we gonna do? She's the only girl not to mention she looks at least ten. None of us know how to care for someone her age. Chuck is the closest to her age but he doesn't know either" "We need to figure it out before she gets hurt." Newt said "She came up three days earlier than the box normally does. That's gotta say something. I say we put her in the slammer" Tessa let out a quiet gasp but not enough for the boys to hear
"That's not necessary Gally, she's ten. Your only mad because she kicked you. She's barely said a word since being here. The most anyone's got out of her was Newt" Minho said "Yeah, why didn't she kick Newt? Why me?" "Because I'm not a slint head" "Okay, we will test her for some jobs tomorrow" Alby said "the most I can say for punishment is two hours in the pit. Let's wait and see how tomorrow goes"
Tessa didn't want to get caught so she ran back to her small room and slipped back onto the covers.
The next morning Newt came to wake her up "Rise and shine Tess" he said
Tessa got dressed and followed Newt through the glade as he showed her around. But Tessa noticed Newt was limping. She tapped his arm and he looked down at her and she pointed to his leg
"Oh, my limp?" He asked and Tessa nodded "I used to be a runner. Messed up my ankle real good" Newt said simply
He hates lying to her but her also didn't want to scare her. Nobody else knew but Minho. They entered the Kitchen, where her first job would be
"Tessa, this is Frypan— your going to help him with a meal, I'm sure he can teach you a lot" Newt said and Tessa hesitantly let go of newts arm and let him leave
Frypan stepped forward and crouched down to her size "Hey Tessa. I'm Frypan as he said. But, breakfast will be soon so we better start— those shanks are greedy" he joked
Frypan and Tessa got along well, he made her laugh a bit and she talked more words to him than anyone else so far.
"Well, i have to say Tessa you are quite the chef" Frypan said "now let's feed the monsters"
