Tessa wasn't send up to the maze regularly. The box was sent up 3 days earlier than it normally come up. She was put in the maze for the boys to find.

AS THEY RAN INTO THE SCORCH, Tessa heard the sounds of helicopters and all-terrain vehicles in the distance only making her run faster as they all tried to stay unseen "Everybody, go, go, go" Thomas whispered before they continued to crawl through the sandstorm "stay low, stay low!"
Once they got up they began running again, trying to best avoid getting sand into their eyes. "Where are we even going?"
Tessa sprinted towards the front of the group, and saw a silhouette of a buried building. Everyone else seemed to see it as well. Teresa and Tessa ran the quickest to it and found a broken window on the side "come on!" Teresa yelled before jumping in and Tessa did too, ignoring e calls from the group of boys and sliding down the small hill to the floor.
One by one all the boys came down to where they were, Newt having a bit more trouble because of his limp. They all panted as they stood in the building and Minho pulled out a flashlight and turned it on, lighting up wherever he pointed it "Where the hell are we?" He asked as the looked around
"We gotta go" Thomas said
"No" Teresa protested, but he didn't listen
"We gotta—"
"Thomas, Stop!" Teresa yelled, the sudden outburst from her making Tessa jump slightly and Thomas stopped to look at her
"Tell me what's going on" she demanded
"It's wicked" Thomas said softly "they lied to us, we never escaped. Me and Aris, we found bodies— to many to count."
"What do you mean?" "Dead bodies?" Tessa questioned
"No, but they weren't alive either. They had them strung up with tubes coming out of them. They were being drained" Thomas looked around at the group "theres something inside of us wicked wants. So we have to get as far away from them as possible"
"Okay, so what's the plan?" Newt asked putting his hands on his hips "you have a plan right?"
"Yeah, I don't know" Thomas admitted
"Well we followed you out here Thomas... and now your saying you have no idea what we're doing or where we're going" Newt clenched his jaw
"Wait— Janson said something about people hiding in the mountains" Thomas said "some sort of resistance army"
"The Right arm" Aris said "The right arm" Thomas nodded "if they're really against wicked, maybe they can help us"
"People in the mountains" Newt said "mountain people. Thats your plan?"
"It's the only chance we have"
