ANNABETHS POV

I rode my bike over to Piper's mansion. Yeah, mansion. Her dad's this crazy rich actor and she never tells anyone about it. I understand why Piper never liked to be the centre of attention though she always managed to be.

I was greeted by a short man who was dressed in a butler's uniform. I've only been to Piper's place once or twice, and he always manages to make me laugh. He always looked mad, probably because he was, but he was so short that there was no way he could be taken seriously.

"Hey, you made it!" Piper was running down the marble staircase with her hair halfway curled and in pajamas.

We went up to her bathroom where she straightened my hair (I couldn't convince her to just let it be) and we got changed. Piper had on a white satin dress and I had a dark green satin dress. It was down to my knees, casual enough but still classy. I put on a sweater, making sure there were pockets for my books, and I biked back to my place for Percy to pick me up. Biking in a dress is not fun, I do not recommend it.

He was already there when I put my bike away and he waved from the car.

"Should I, um, say hi to your parents?  As to not look rude?" He seemed flustered and nervous, kinda cute.

"No, no that's okay." I didn't want to tell him that my mom would probably yell at him, knowing my step-mom.

We were driving to the party, the sun already setting, making the planes of his face sharp with shadows and highlights. How could a person's face be so proportionate? How could a person's hair be so dark that you were afraid you'd get lost if you stared too long? How could a person's eyes have so many shades to them, so ma-

"Annabeth, you okay?"

"Hm? Oh, yeah, y-you just- um- yeah." This was why I never date people. Such an embarrassment.

Luckily, we got to the party a few seconds after that and he seemed to forget about it all.

Sadly, however, that thought was quickly replaced with the image of Drew outside the front step, waving at Percy. She didn't even seem to notice me in the seat next to him.

"This is gonna be fun, isn't it." He said, passing a strained smile to Drew, which of course resulted in her running to the car, even before it stopped, opening Percy's door and hugging him.

"I was wondering when you'd come! I can't believe you forgot I was your date!" Then she kissed him. And he seemed like he kissed back, though I couldn't tell from the tears that blurred my vision and panic that rose inside my throat.

She's kidding right. She's not serious right. It would make perfect sense, Percy asking me out on a date only to make fun of me when I come to the party, thinking that he was my date when he was actually Drew's. He's the most popular guy, why would I ever think he would like me, why would I ever be so foolish? I didn't know how to breathe for a moment.

"Thanks for the ride, Percy." I ran. I didn't know where I was running, but I ran. Ran until I couldn't see the houses around me and the stars starting to bloom above blurred. Ran until there was only wind, my heartbeat, and my breathing.

It was 7 P.M. about now. I didn't want to go home, or really anywhere. I wanted to escape, leave, and never come back.

Library.

The local library was another place where I went to every time I wanted to escape. It would be closed by now, but I know how to break into the building without causing any alarms to go off.
