Abigail was being rushed by her parents, "Quick Abigail! We need to leave!" Abi was busy looking for a pen and paper, "Just a second, mum!" She found what she needed a wrote down a few words on the paper. "Okay, I'm ready now. Let's go!"
Abigail was in tears as her and her family left town. Her boyfriend was nowhere to be found, one of her dogs went missing and she had to leave her home forever. She had lived in her home for her whole life, and now she had to leave for the rest of her life. She had many memories of her home, good and bad, and that made her home the most important place to her.
She thought about Max a lot. Would he be out killing and stealing? Would he be in hiding until he dies? Would he already be dead? She had a feeling he wasn't dead, she knew him too well, she knew he would've stolen a car and fled to safety or something along those lines. She knew he could fight and defend himself. She knew he would find somewhere safe. She knew he would live.
The drive was a few hours long but it only felt like a couple of minutes to Abigail. She had spent most of the time crying and overthinking, causing time to pass her quicker. She had been driven all the way to her friend house. Her friend, Ella lived on a closed off, safe property that was hours from the closest town so they were far from any major danger.
There was huge amounts of people at the property, many of them that Abigail didn't know. Some looked pretty dodgy and as if they were going to steal the supplies, others looked like they wouldn't survive a day. Abigail just kept wishing that whatever was happening would be over soon.
Ella let Abigail stay with her in her own bedroom, away from all the campers outside. On the way, Abigail's family picked up a couple of hitchhikers who needed a place to stay. They didn't trust them much but they weren't the kind of people to leave someone behind.
Ella's dad and Abigail's dad were close friends and had both decided to go for a drive and collect a few supplies, weapons and any other "survivors" as they called them. The adults were having meetings and discussions about these "survivors" and the "crisis" but nobody else seemed to understand what was going on.
Ella had a theory that maybe their was a war on and that people who they had known for years had been brainwashed to work for the people who started the war. Abigail didn't know what to think, however, she knew that what ever was going on was going to be going on for a long time, if not, forever.
Whenever Abigail had time, she would spend it crying and thinking of all the horrible things people were going through. She would think of Max and what was happening to him, if he was alive. She kept telling herself that he was. It had only been half a day, she knew he wouldn't show up straight away, she knew it would take time, but the longer Max took, the more she began to doubt the chances of him ever showing up.
"Abigail! Where are you!" Abigail heard her mothers voice call, "I'm in here, mum!" Abigail called back. Abigail's mum entered the room, "A few people were just found dead, they won't tell us who, I just wanted to make sure you weren't one of them." Abigail stared blankly at the wall, "Who's they?" Abigail's mother shrugged, "The people who disposed of the bodies. Ella's parents invited a few military maniacs in to help us but now they're trying to run the place." Abigail nodded her head. "Okay."
Abigail and Ella sat alone talking, "So thy won't even tell your parents who try were?" Abigail asked. "Even if they did, they wouldn't me to try and keep me safe or whatever their excuses are." Ella replied. "If your parents didn't let those soldiers in, if would probably be them that are dead, so your parents should at least get to know who died." Ella just nodded, "You've got a point but I kind of don't want to know, just incase it's somebody I know."
Abigail and Ella decided to go for a swim in the dam, mainly to get their mind off of things. To their surprise, it actually helped. They splashed around and had fun and even smiled a bit. With all that was going on it was good that they were smiling for once.
Ella and Abigail's dad's arrived back with food and water and a few other things. The mothers cooked the food and prepared it for everybody to eat. They were being served large amounts of good considering the situation. "Mum, shouldn't we try save the food?" Ella asked. "We will honey, it's just none of us have eaten all day and we need a bit more food at the moment." Ella's mum replied between mouthfuls of food. "But mum.." Ella tried arguing. "Darling, just eat and appreciate while we can." Ella's mum said. "What do you mean, while we can? Is something going to happen? Are we going to die here?" Ella began to panic, "We are aren't we! Were gonna die! Every last one of us!" Ella stood up, "We can't die here! We have to go out and try survive! We have to live and.." Ella got cut off by her dad, who was standing up with an unhappy look on his face. "We can't move, Ella! There is no point in trying to survive! Most of the world is gone. We are the only ones left and if you think that..." That was when Abi stood up, "But we aren't the only ones. Think about it, we're the most unprepared people for this situation, and we are alive. There are more people out there, including Max." Ella's dad stared at Abi for a few seconds, then at Ella, then left the table in a rush.
