Abigail woke Ella in a rush, pushing her unconscious body around and repeating her name, "Ella! wake up!!" Ella woke up eventually and turn over to look at Abigail, "I'd like to sleep, go away." Ella said, rolling back over and closing her eyes. Abigail hit her in the face, "We have to go, Daniel is going to do something stupid." Abigail said. She must've said it to loud because the voices upstairs stairs started to fall silent.
Abigail persuaded Ella to get up and leave the house.
They went outside and found a window that had a gap through it's defences. They watched through the gap as Daniel walked down the stairs, followed by about four men. "That's Daniel's dad!" Ella whispered. "But, wasn't he in jail?" Abigail asked. "He must've broken out, I'm not sure. But he's dangerous." Ella said.
They continued to watch, Daniel's father was yelling and cussing at Daniel for letting Abigail and Ella get away, "I knew you couldn't do it boy, I knew you'd send them away to save them. You're nothing." He yelled, "Dad! I checked that they were asleep, they must've.." Daniel was cut off as Daniel's father hit him across the face, knocking him to the ground unconscious. "Oh my gosh." Ella whispered.
Abigail and Ella sat up against the wall, trying to comprehend what they had just seen. Ella's boyfriend working for his criminal dad and attempting to kidnap them. "I knew he wasn't trustworthy," Abigail said. "It's not his fault, it's his dad who made him do it." Ella responded. "Nobody makes anybody do anything." Abigail said.
They say for a while longer, just to make sure the coast was clear, "We should leave now," Ella whispered in Abigail's ear. "I have a bad feeling okay, let's just stay a bit longer," Abigail responded, barely whispering. "That bad feeling will turn worse if you don't talk quietly because they'll find us." Ella whispered angrily. "Okay whatever, let's go." Abigail whispered back.
They stood up slowly and quietly, looking around one last time before making a run for it. Just as they started running, a man walked around the corner. Ella saw him before he saw them so she stopped, quickly bent over, found a rock to throw and threw it. She hit him directly in the face, knocking him to the ground. He fell with a thud, a thud loud enough to alert everybody else, so Abigail and Ella kept running, aiming for the trees they had come through earlier that day.
They made it to the tree line without anybody following. They walked through the trees because it was dark and there was to many tripping hazards to run. Abigail still managed to trip over a stick. "Shit Abigail!" Ella said, "That scared me." Abigail stood up, "Yeah, whatever, thanks for helping me up." Abigail said sarcastically.
They walked for a few kilometres before coming across the road they had been following earlier. Abigail guessed it would be almost midnight, "We should sleep. We'll follow the road tomorrow or maybe the next day just to be safe. But we have to sleep now." Abigail said, "I'm not going to argue, sleep sounds nice." Ella responded.
They found a few trees to hide behind and set up their beds there. They were having trouble falling asleep due to the cold, so they decided to use one bed instead. The body heat from both the girls made it just warm enough to sleep, but they still struggled.
"Do you think we'll survive this whole thing? Like until it's over?" Ella asks. "Maybe. I don't know if it ever will be over." Abigail responded. "So much for positive thinking." Ella said sarcastically, shifting positions uncomfortably. "I don't want to lose you." Abigail said, "I can't lose you." Ella responded. A tear fell from Abigail's left eye, "This thing, these creatures, I think they're a test, like something to test us and in a few years someone will come down and get all the survivors and take them somewhere. Like to see who's strong." Abigail said, but Ella didn't reply, she'd fallen asleep.
Abigail was lonely. She wondered about what Max was doing, was he looking for her? Was he being tortured? Was he dead? She didn't know but she didn't want to accept it if he was. "Why is this happening to us?" Abigail asked, before rolling over and closing her eyes in an attempt to sleep.
