He woke up to loud and annoying static sounds coming from his television. He sat up in his bed and Freak jumped up to join him. The television kept on making static noises for another minute before a face appeared. The face was the face of Barrack Obama, the president of the United States. The face disappeared after a couple of seconds so Max went out to make some breakfast.
He poured himself some cereal and milk and started eating. He gave Freak a few doggy treats he had lying around from his last dog, Dex. Dex was Max's dad's dog who Max was forced to look after.
He started hearing the static noises coming from his television again so he went back to his room, still with his cereal, hoping that he would hear something.
Barrack Obama's face was back on the screen. He started talking, "The citizens of America and the World. I have been in deep discussion with all the other living world leaders and we have decided to keep everybody informed on..."
The connection cut out, then came back on, "So please, stay inside and be ready at zero eight hundred hours, every morning for further information..."
The connection cut out again, this time for about a minute, and when it came back on, "Daniel Turner, who is believed to be a sufferer of ADHD and anger management problems, has escaped the Australian safe-base." Daniel Turner. Max's best friend from his ADHD camp, and school, and everywhere. "Daniel has been known to attack people unexpectedly and seriously injure. If you happen to see Daniel at all, please contact.."
Max was angry, "Bullshit! Absolute bullshit! Daniel never hurt nobody!" The television kept on going, "Many friends of Daniel are also immature, dangerous and are believed to..." Max had smashed the television with his cereal bowl. "Fucking Americans." Max growled.
Max and Freak walked along the deserted streets in search of a car. There seemed to be nothing useful at all in the town. People, cars, even food was becoming extremely scarce. Max had searched many places for food and water and the only reliable sources was his own house. Everywhere else was cleared out. "What if everyone in this town got away safely?" Max asked Freak. Freak barked. "Nobody's around. But where did those diseased come from?" So many questions that Max didn't know the answer too.
Max wandered on in search of anything that could help him travel to places without wasting his much needed energy. He travelled to the edge of town where he found a farmers quad bike. Lucky for him it had a large enough basket on the back to fit Freak in. Freak refused to sit in it at first but once Max started threatening to leave him, he obeyed. This surprised Max as he hadn't known the dog very long and it was taking orders from him very well.
He rode around town, doing one last search for survivors. He then went back home one last time, checked to see if he was missing anything, then moved on.
He rode out south towards Daniel Turner's old house, he was hoping that maybe Daniel would go back home first. It was an hour drive following the speed limit so Max decided to speed it up a bit. Unfortunately for him, there was dead animals on the road and he hit one. He lost control of the bike and ended up riding off the road and hitting a rock.
He woke up with horrific pains in his right arm. He looked over at it and saw the quad bike on top of it. With all the strength in his left arm, he managed to lift the quad off of it and move his arm away. His arm was broken. He found a role of duct tape in his bag and two straight sticks to hold his arm. He taped them on tightly, so that they would hold his arm steady.
Max was a right handed person so he wouldn't be able to shoot or attack with all his strength. He would have to use his left arm instead and that would limit to how much damage he would cause on the opponent.
As he stood up, he noticed Freak laying a few metres away. At first he thought Freak was dead but his head was up as if he was guarding while playing dead. "Freak!" He called and Freak came over immediately.
Daniel's house was still about seventy kilometres away following the road. So Max took a short cut which shortened the walk to around fifteen kilometres. Max travelled at a steady but fast pace in hope that he could make it there before, or at the same time, that Daniel did.
He was in pain and he was extremely tired but he kept walking, that was until he saw the diseased. About a group of fifteen, possibly a country family. He tried to avoid them but Freak had other plans, Freak barked and ran at them.
