30. hell of a dinner

HUXLEY KING
I noticed how Eden gulped and stared at the door. I moved forward and stood behind her, hoping my presence would be able to comfort her.
"Stunning, our guests are here. Is it okay if I open the door?" I ran my thumb across her shoulder blade softly, in a gentle attempt to encourage the strength I knew she has inside her. My ears caught her nervous sigh before she began to walk over to the door.
"No, no, no," I said, grabbing her arms gently and pulling her back. She was too stressed. "You sit down, stunning. Gather your thoughts. I'll open the door." I pushed her into her seat gently.
"It's probably just Gracie," She said, nodding absentmindedly. "When I called her before, I asked her to come five minutes earlier. It's probably her."
I crouched down in front of her as the doorbell rang again. I ignored it and focused my attention on Eden. It may have been rude, but right now, Eden was the most important person in this room. I cupped her cheeks, smiling as I felt the warmth of her cheek radiate onto me. "Eden, if you're too nervous to tell them, we don't have to. We can do it another night."
I watched her carefully as she shook her head. "I'm not nervous about telling them. I can't wait to tell them. I'm just nervous about how they'll react. What if they hate me?"
I nodded at her words and smile warmly at my beautiful and strong girlfriend. I was sure there wasn't much she couldn't do. She was so stubborn but remained so kind and beautiful. She could be so adamant. She could definitely hand me my ass when she feels like it. Sometimes, I wonder how she put up with me for so long. I shook that thought from my head and smiled.
"I doubt that could ever happen. Even if it does, you'll always have me, and Gracie too. I promise," I leaned in to seal my promise with a kiss and just as I was about to capture her warm, delicious lips with mine, the doorbell began ringing incessantly.
I laughed and shook my head. "That's definitely Gracie. I'll be right back." I placed a quick peck on her lips and walked towards the door. I opened it to reveal my very irritated looking daughter.
"Could you be any more annoying, my dear daughter?" I asked her, an amused smile on my face.
"Yes, father, I could." She nodded her head, brushing right past me with a smile as she rolled her eyes.
Okay, then. I laughed before turning my attention to Liam.
I watched as Liam followed closely behind her and I narrowed my eyes at the back of his head. I still didn't really like this guy, especially after what he implied about Eden. I was going to have to ask him a few questions during dinner.
