CODY HARVILLE

My phone almost fell out of my hands as I stared at the text from Natalie. My heart was racing, my palms were sweating, and there were a million butterflies fluttering around in my stomach. I couldn't hold back the enormous smile that stretched all the way across my face.

I looked up to see my boss, Will, eyeing me in confusion. "What the fuck's got you so happy?"

I chuckled. "Heh, I have a date."

He laughed. "In all the eleven years you've been working for me, I don't think I've ever seen you this excited about a date before. Come to think of it, have you ever even been on a proper date?"

"Well, no. Not really." I shrugged. "Not one where I didn't have an agenda, and certainly never a second. I've never had an emotional connection with anyone, just physical, until now at least." I stared at Will straight in the eyes. "This girl slept in my bed and all we did was cuddle, and that was after she was already asleep. And the weird part is, I don't even care that nothing happened, I just enjoyed her company."

Will snorted, looking amused. "Damn, dude, this chick's got her hooks in you deep."

I nodded. "That's for sure. She's got me cooking for her and sending her cutesy text messages."

Will made a whip cracking noise and I laughed, shaking my head, while looking back down at the text from Natalie. I smiled as I began typing.

CODY
"It'll be fun. I promise.

NATALIE
"Haha. It's OK, I trust you.
"Thank you for the text this morning, by the way. I really needed that."
"I had such a shit morning being late for work and all and seeing it made my day a little less shitty."
"I'm on my break and finally had the time to text you back."

So she didn't leave me on read. That made my smile a whole lot brighter.

CODY
"I'm sorry you were late for work, but I'm glad I could help lol."
"So when is your next day off?"

NATALIE
"Tuesday."

Four days, I would be able to plan something fun within that amount of time.

CODY
"Perfect."
"Don't make any plans. Be ready to be picked up at 5:30 and wear something comfortable."

NATALIE
"Where are you taking me?"

I smirked. I knew the perfect place, but no way was I telling her. It would be more fun to build up the suspense and see the excitement on her face the moment we got there.

CODY
"Nope. I'm not telling."
"It's a surprise."

Natalie didn't respond. I could picture her on the other end of the phone pouting. I chuckled.

CODY
"Well I need to get back to work. I'll talk to you later."

I slipped my phone back into my pocket and got back to the power steering pump I was fixing.

NATALIE KANE

Was he seriously not going to tell me where we were going? He told me to dress casual, but exactly how casual? Were we going to be inside or outside? Was it going to be crowded or secluded? A girl needs to know these things.
