NATALIE KANE
I nearly choked on my eggs from his question. Meet the pack? Was I really ready to be surrounded by a bunch of werewolves I didn't know? What if they didn't like me? I looked down at my plate. "I-I guess so."
Cody placed his finger underneath my chin and pulled my head to face his, giving me a warm smile. "You have nothing to worry about. They're going to love you." He seemed so confident, but I sure wasn't.
After breakfast, we made our way outside and into the woods. Not too far in, there was a large clearing where Alpha Jason and the rest of the pack were standing, surrounding two of the members, who seemed to be attacking each other.
My eyes grew wide as I shot Cody a nervous look. He chuckled, wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me in close to him. He placed a soft kiss on the side of my forehead. "They're sparring," he said casually, dragging me with him into the crowd to get a better view. "It's part of our training. It helps us build up our strength and endurance. Don't worry, it may seem like they're hurting each other, but werewolves heal within minutes."
I stared at the two wolves as they lunged at each other, their canines extended, snarling and growling. They were so fierce and strong, it was terrifying to watch, but at the same time, I was utterly fascinated. "What are you training for?" I kept my eyes glued to the scene in front of me. I couldn't seem to look away, as if I was afraid I'd miss something.
"Attacks. Whether it be from other packs or other species. We need to be ready for anything."
I gasped as I slowly turned my head to face Cody's. "Other species?" I whispered.
Cody laughed. "Yes. There are other supernatural beings in this world. You didn't think us werewolves were the only ones did you?"
"Well, I guess not now," I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes. "Are you attacked often?"
"No, but we still need to be prepared and at our best for the safety of our pack."
Suddenly, there was a loud howl, and I quickly whipped my head around to see the blonde wolf on top of the brown haired one, pinning him down victoriously.
"Nice job, Eric," Jason boomed from the other side of the crowd. Eric stood up and beamed as if he had just won the Super Bowl, while the other had a scowl on his face, wiping blood away from under his nose. "Now, before we choose our next team," Jason continued, "I have an announcement to make." All eyes were now focused on him as they listened intently. "Some of you may already know, we have a new pack member."
He pointed, and suddenly everyone's eyes were trained on me. I hated being the center of attention and suddenly I felt extremely exposed. I shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot as I stared down at the ground.
Cody pulled me in closer to his body, holding onto me tightly. "This is Natalie, my mate," he stated, proudly.
There were several gasps and one noticeably audible snicker. "The human." I looked up to lock eyes with a woman with long, dark hair, tightly woven into two pigtail braids. Her dark brown eyes were piercing right through mine as she looked at me with complete disgust.
My words escaped from my lips no louder than a whisper. "How did you-"
"Word travels fast," she cut me off. "Plus, I can tell how weak and pathetic you are just by looking at you."

Werewolf** "Hey," I squeaked back. I didn't know why he was so intimidating, but for some odd reason, I kind of liked it. It wasn't a scary intimidating, I wasn't afraid of him at all. He was intriguing, sexy, and a man who screamed danger, but at the same...
