Diana's POVWorking with Franki these past few weeks have given me an opportunity to see a different side of her. We worked well together as a team but we still have those moments where we'd still piss each other off especially when we're not working.
Like right now. I see her sitting alone in the cafeteria looking so serious.
Sarap asarin.
I don't really know what's happened to me but I've grown accustomed to this setup. It's like my day wouldn't be complete if I don't do something to piss Franki off.
I make my way towards her with a smirk on my face.
"Seryoso mo ngayon ah. (You look serious today.)"
She looked up at me but averted her gaze back at her phone, ignoring me.
I leaned in closer to the table. "Wow himala. Natahimik ka ata. (It's a miracle. You're unusually quiet.)
"Not now, Diana." She heaved a deep sigh, "I'm not in the mood."
I can sense that something's different from the tone of her voice. This was the first time she passed on an opportunity to bicker with me.
I would've asked her if she has a problem but then I saw Kiara approaching and so I immediately left and went to buy a drink.
I'm just standing on one corner of the cafeteria talking to a friend while glancing at Kiara and Franki once in a while.
I couldn't hear what they were talking about but it looked serious. After a while, Franki stood up and left. Kiara immediately followed her leaving her wallet and phone at their table in the process. I quickly grabbed Kiara's things and followed them to the restroom.
I stopped on my tracks at the entrance of our doorless restroom when I heard Franki's voice inside.
"She's doing it again, Kiara! My mom's ruining my life again." She sounded really angry. "I want to commend her timing! Perfect as always!"
"What do you mean?" Kiara's voice was soft and calm.
"Remember when I was still studying in Sunedin? How she left me in the middle of my finals week? Like what kind of parent would leave their child in the middle of an important event? She couldn't have waited for me to finish my finals before she left?! And now after months of no communication, she suddenly sends me a message?"
"She did?"
"Yeah! Guess what she said? 'Hey, Frances. How are you doing?' Like is she for real? She left me and dad and she has the nerve to ask me how I'm doing?!"
"Franki, relax..."
"No! I mean. Why is she doing this now? Kiara, you know very well how I barely passed my exams in Sunedin. I couldn't even start my painting for my final project. I honestly don't know I pulled it off."
"Franks, just try to breathe, okay. Don't let her get to you."
"I don't know what to do. I need to clear my head."
I heard Franki approaching but it was too late for me to move.
She was taken aback when she saw me.
"Oh great!" she scoffed, "Thanks for eavesdropping. Now you know my life isn't perfect! You happy?!"
She walked past me and slightly bumped my shoulder.
