Diana's POV
"Good afternoon class," Ms. Javier greeted us with a huge smile on her face, "I have here the results of your Midterm Exams and your class standing."
She stood in front and sat on the edge of her table.
"I'd like to congratulate everyone for a job well done. All of you did great during the first half of the term." She glanced at our papers, "Now, I'd like to announce the top scorers of your exams, Ms. Diana Mackey and Ms. Franki Russell. Congratulations!"
The class gave us a round of applause then she gave us our papers.
Franki and I looked at each other with blank expressions on our faces. Who would've thought that this competition between us will actually pay off?
"Now," Ms. Javier continued after distributing all test papers to the rest of the class, "For the second half of this term, I'm going to give you a special project." She reached for a small box behind her and pointed at Franki's side, "Each student on this side of the room will pick a paper from this box. Each paper contains the name of a student on this side," she pointed at our side of the room.
She glanced back at Franki's side, "Whoever it is that you guys will pick, will be your partner for your special project."
They all nodded their heads.
"Since there are twenty of you, there will be a total of ten pairs."
She came closer to the other side of the room and was motioning for Franki to get the box when her phone rang.
Another student got the box instead of Franki which Ms. Javier didn't notice because she looked at her phone. "I'm sorry I have to take this real quick, Franki get one then pass the box clockwise and don't open the names yet." She hurriedly went outside the room to answer the call.
Since our classmate was already holding the box, Franki let her go first. They all started picking names from the box but the papers were still folded. After a few moments, Ms. Javier went back inside the room and was taken aback when she saw Franki holding the box.
"Oh, Franki, you picked last?"
"Yes po," Franki answered and stood up to give the box back to Ms. Javier.
"Oh, okay." Ms. Javier seemed a bit disappointed.
Is she? Or maybe I'm just assuming.
"Alright," let's find out your partners. "Mel, you go first. Who did you get?"
"Jake."
And then it went on...
I haven't heard my name yet and there are five students left.
Four...
Three...
Wait, Franki hasn't been asked yet. Why am I feeling nervous?
Two students left.
"And last but not the least, Franki." Ms. Javier had an unexplainable smile on her face, "Who is your lucky partner?"
"E-ehem." She slowly unfolded the piece of paper she's holding then with a soft voice she answered, "Diana."
"Wooaahh!"
I am not kidding when I say the whole class reacted as if they've been waiting for this to happen their whole lives.
Even Ms. Javier smiled and nodded her head in approval.
