In the shallows

Tina's POV:

Castor hasn't answered any of my texts since the ball. I hope he's alright. I miss him.

I've tried calling him and texting him a million times with no luck. What if he's mad at me?

He doesn't seem like the type to hold it in. But maybe I deserve to be ignored. Or maybe he just needs some time.

"Tina!" I snap out of my thoughts when dad calls me.

"What?" I ask.

"I called your name five times. You nearly burned the burger." Dad moves me aside and takes over the grill.

"Sorry. I've got some things on my mind." I sigh. He looks at me with confusion.

"Like what?" He asks.

"Castor." I reply.

"Did he say something to you?" He questions.

"The opposite actually. He won't answer my calls." I answer in exasperation.

"Well then you should drop him. If he doesn't value you and your time, he doesn't deserve a girl like you." Dad gives me a half smile.

"It's unlike him. I'm worried." I sigh.

"I'm sure he's fine, Teen." Dad continues to work, and I try my best to focus on my own job.

"Can you go take out the trash?" Dad asks. "It's right by the door. Just put it in the dumpster in the alley."

"Yeah." I nod, taking the garbage out. Throwing it into the dumpster, I jump at the sight of Castor's antennas peeking out from the trash.

"What are you doing hiding in there?" I giggle.

He springs up and grabs me, holding me in a chokehold. This isn't Castor. But it sure is a Martian.

"Shhh. Don't make this difficult, earthling scum." The mystery attacker says.

I get my phone out of my pocket, but he quickly throws it to the ground and smashes it, punching me in the face and drawing blood.

"What do you want from me?" I ask, barely able to speak while being strangled.

"I have orders from the king. You are to be imprisoned while you await your trial." The stranger explains in short.

"Imprisoned?! For what?!" I shriek in worry.

"For brainwashing the prince! You've corrupted him and made him believe in a foolish human girl! And you kissed under the two moons! The only way the soulmate pact can be broken is if you die!" He growls.

"N-No!" I cry out. "D-Dad! Mom! S-Someone!"

He presses a button on his belt, and a disk shaped ufo appears, beaming us both up into the ship.

"I've got her, your highness." The attacker says. I look to see the king in front of me.

"Why are you doing this?! Cas is in love! I'm in love!" I protest.

"You've ruined my son! And you are to be executed!" He shouts.

"What?!" I gasp. "No! I love him! Please don't! I didn't ruin anyone!"

As we fly through the sky, I argue with the king, begging him to reconsider. "I have a family who will be looking for me!"

"According to the law, you have the right to a fair trial. And no matter how much I don't like it, it is a rule my ancestors created long ago so everyone may live peacefully." The king explains reluctantly.

So I still have a chance. This is life or death. I need Castor. I wish he was here with me. Maybe he could convince his father to let me go.

"Castor has no idea you're going to be executed. And it's going to stay that way. You are not to see my son ever again." The king commands.

On a jury full of Martians, I'm not sure a 'fair trial' will do me any good. So I need a miracle.

Castor, help! Maybe if I think really hard and really loudly, Cas will hear me with his mind reading.

Castor, I'm in trouble! Help me! Your father is going to have me killed! I need you!

It doesn't help. He's not coming. I begin to panic, tears forming in my eyes.

Once the ufo lands, they bring me to a prison cell where I'm forced to stay until my trial.

Mom and dad must be worried sick by now. I hope I can go home soon. I already miss them so much.

Bob's POV:

Tina's been outside for half an hour. What could she possibly be doing back there?

I go into the alley to check, only to see she isn't here. "Tina?" I call out.

Did she sneak off? That doesn't seem like something she would do. "Tina!" I say again.

Linda joins me, having heard my shouting. "What's going on?" She asks in concern.

"Tina's not here." I reply.

"What do you mean she's not here? She didn't come back from taking out the garbage?" Linda questions.

My worry growing, I yell her name again. "Tina!" Pacing up and down the street, she is nowhere to be found.

Linda calls her cellphone, and I hear it ringing. Crouching to see underneath the dumpster, I grab the abandoned phone.

"Oh god no!" Linda cries. The phone is broken, and the screen has a splotch of blood on it.

"Calm down, Lin. We'll call the police." I try to sound calm myself, but I'm beginning to worry.

"Bobby she's hurt!" Linda wails. I take her in my arms to comfort her.

After the police arrive, everything begins to sink in. My daughter is missing. And the only thing left of her is a broken and bloody phone.

Please come home, Tina.

Tina's POV:

It's been a few hours since I got here, and the prison door is guarded by soldiers, making it impossible to find an escape.

"It's time." The king appears, and the soldiers grab my arms roughly, dragging me down a stone staircase and into the city square.

At the bottom of the steps, I scream.

In front of me is a noose, surrounded by onlookers who boo me as I'm taken up onto the stage.

"Wait! Please! I'm innocent! I didn't do anything!" I cry.

"Burn in hell!" One of the Martians taunt.

"Please! Castor, help me!" I heave, panic rising inside of me. I'm about to be executed, and there's nothing I can do to stop it.

They tie the noose around my neck, letting me fall, and choking the life out of me.

Black spots cloud my vision, and I whimper with my last breath. "Cas...M-Mom...Dad...Lo-Louise...G-Gene...I love you." I pray that somehow they can hear me.

Because I'll never be able to tell them these things ever again.
