Day 16 – Someone in a different state/country

Dear ******,

We live in the same country, but not the same state. I used to live in your state though. And we were best friends.

We were best friends right from I think it was, third day of pre-prep. I remember you came up to me and said, ‘Let’s be friends.’ Us being the 5 year olds agreed. We clicked, and instantly became best friends. We always paired up for activities, we always sat beside each other and during nap time, we would drag our mats next to each other.

We went through pre-prep together.

In prep we were still best friends. Again, we did everything together. I remember the one time I got upset. I got upset cause you had a pooh bear pillow. Pathetic I know xD. At our school they did the buddy system with the prep’s and grade 7’s. Your buddy was disabled and was in a wheel chair. You never really got a chance to be with your buddy. My buddy was one of the nicest people I know. Me and you hung out as friends and it was only us. My buddy would regularly play games with us. I remember there was this one game and the poles throughout the playground holding the cover up were the safe spots for us, and we had to run to them for safety. My buddy wasn’t allowed to touch them because they would electrocute her. It was so funny when she got electrocuted and we would crack up laughing. I loved my buddy.

In Year 1, nothing had changed between us. We got new buddies. My buddies was lovely and sometimes me and you would sit with your buddy and my buddy and just talk all lunch time.

I remember the first time you got really upset was when I was drawing you a picture and you got annoyed cause I’d drawn you too fat. I was really upset. Of course, within 1 hour, we were back to best friends again.

We were moving. I don’t remember when I told you, or when Mum told your family but I remember having to do all these extra worksheets because I was going into Year 3 instead of Year 2 when we moved.

On the car trip down to the airport, I cried the whole time. I was going to miss you so much.

You came to the airport to say goodbye. We sat and ate cookies and had chocolate milk until the it was time to board. I remember hugging you before walking away. I waved until I couldn’t see you anymore.

We kept contact for a while after I moved, but over the years we didn’t talk as much. We email each other for birthday’s and Christmas, but that’s about it now.

I haven’t seen you In 8 years. I miss you. We’re no longer best friends. I suppose we’re both fine with that.

Lots of love Becky xx
