⛔ Heavy SPOILERS for chapter 16!! ⛔
Your eyes bore holes on your bedroom's ceiling as you lay fully awake on your bed. The events of the last week replay again and again on your mind, haunting you every night. It's been days since you had a full night's rest, and you are exhausted. Your body is aching everywhere, imploring you to let it rest. Yet your mind keeps you from resting with the same memories every time.
You remember his hands around your neck, strongly suffocating you until everything went black. And then you appeared on the stairs leading to the attic. You heard people yelling at the entrance hall, so you made your way downstairs. A horrified expression etched onto your face as you saw yourself lying dead on Mammon's arms, just to watch it vanish shortly after. Only the blood that painted the carpet remained in your place.
Leviathan was the first to notice you standing still at the top of the stairs and made the others aware of your presence. Shock and confusion filled the room, unaware of what had just taken place.
Not contented with having killed you once, the younger of the siblings launched at you a second time. And he would have done it, hadn't you told him about Lilith's human life.
His maniacal laugh still reverberates through your head, reminding you of your other self's death by Belphegor's hand. And like a bucle, the scene repeats itself inside your mind. First the suffocation, then your body vanishing and the blood. Not to forget the seventh born's mad face approaching you to finish his task.
You can't help but think, what would have happened if you weren't Lilith's descendant? Would the brothers just let Belphegor kill you? They didn't even move to stop him, after all. Do they even care about you or are you just a replacement for Lilith? These thoughts keep on pestering you every second of the day.
The alarm of your DDD rings to wake you up, only it can't do so considering you're wide awake. You stop it irritated with the sound, and lay again on your bed waiting for everyone to leave. You don't feel like attending school today. You've been going these past days to try and distract yourself from the pestering memories, but you feel so tired today. You don't even care if Lucifer decides to punish you or something for missing class, right now you just want to sleep.
However, you can't, no matter how hard you try.
No one came asking for you this morning, nor did they for lunch. You were hoping they'll leave you alone for dinner too, though a knock on your door tells you otherwise. You ignore it and pull the covers over your head to muffle the sound. Because of your lack of sleep every little noise echoes loudly in your head, annoying you to no end.The knock continues, and even though they are soft and calm your ears detects them as infuriatingly loud. So much so, that you can't help but yell angrily: "Can you fucking stop it, already?"
"(Y/n), open up," the person outside requests. You fall silent, pleased by the tranquility that engulfed you once more. Until the knocking started again.
You huff exhasperated, throwing your bed covers to the side and stomping your way to the door. You swing it open ready to tell off the person behind it, only to be caught off guard by Belphegor's violet eyes. Instantly your body stiffens as you back away from him, not caring on hiding your fearful expression like you had been doing the past days.
Belphegor stops immediately from stepping inside when he sees your state, anxiety and guilt crawling his back. 'Of course,' he thinks defeated, 'everything was going too perfectly.'
Feeling too tired to keep your act up, you frown deeply. "Get away f-from me," you mutter frightened, your hold on the door handle tightening. Your hand reaches for your neck subconsciously as the memory of him asphyxiating you flood your head. The movement doesn't go unnoticed by the demon, who watches you helplessly from the doorway.
"(Y/n)..." he chokes out through the knot on his throat. Belphegor knows he doesn't have any right to ask for anything. He can't blame you for hating him, for never wanting to see his face again. But then... why are his eyes welling with tears at the thought of it?
"Please, go away," you beg once more, not even caring to contain the tears from falling. He reaches out to you, but you quickly step back out of his reach. "Don't touch me," you whimper.
Belphegor retreats his hand devastated and let's it fall limply to his side. He can't believe it's his fault you were like this. So afraid, so weak, so... broken. Right now he just wants to embrace you in a warm hug, one so warm all your broken pieces will melt back together. Yet again, he can't do that.
"I'm sorry, (Y/n)..." he mumbles weakly, eyes never leaving yours.
"Just... go away!" you cry out. "Leave me alone!"
"(Y/n)..."
"Please... go..." you sob while falling to your knees and scrambling further away from him, the feeling of suffocation coming back due to the tears. You let the tears out, bawling all the feelings you had bottled up previously in order to protect yourself.
Soon more demons appear on the hall, alarmed by the loud weeping. Mammon quickly steps in to comfort you, while Lucifer and Beelzebub escort Belphegor away from you, his eyes fixed on your figure until he couldn't see any part of you anymore.
