Chapter 14 A MATTER OF TIME AND DEATH PART 6

'Kane! It's time to use the other feature of The Chronos!' Kane heard The Watcher's voice in his mind. 'You may not be able to go back again in time for a day to do anything to change your current predicament. But The Chronos has another ability that will be just what you need to get you and Nick out of this mess!"

'What is it!?' Kane mentally demanded.

'The Chronos can also slow time around you for brief periods of time!' The Watcher revealed to Kane in his mind. 'What's even better is that that ability can be used up to 30 times before The Chronos has to take a half hour break first before being used again instead of just only being able to use it once a day like with the first ability!'

'How do I use it, though?' Kane asked The Watcher in his head.

'That's easy! Just think about slowing while you're holding The Chronos and it will make it happen!' The Watcher explained. 'Now, hurry and use it!'

Kane complied and he then thought of how he wanted time to slow down. Suddenly, to Kane's shock and amazement, the world around him seemed to stop almost completely as things appeared to be moving in slow-motion!

Remembering what was going on, Kane slowly and carefully came out of his hiding spot and saw Judy Hopps. Judy Hopps saw him and went to try to shoot him and was doing it a bit slowly as well!

Kane then got serious when he noticed Judy and everything else was beginning to speed up! This could only mean that like The Watcher had said, The Chronos could slow time, but only for brief moments.

Kane quickly went back behind his hiding place and just in time as time went back to normal and a tranquilizer dart from Judy's gun just barely missed him! Seeing how close that that had been and seeing that he would have to use The Chronos wisely, Kane used The Chronos to slow time again and he used it this time to get to where Nick Wilde was taking cover at without getting shot.

Time sped back up again, but at least Kane and Nick were back together. Now, all that needed to be done was for Kane and Nick to reach and get into their car.

Slowing time for a 3rd time and grabbing Nick, Kane made a dash for the car! He got a bit closer before he and Nick were forced to take shelter again.

Judy Hopps was now stunned to see that Kane and Nick Wilde had somehow gotten past her so easily! "How did you get over there and so fast!?" Judy cried out in shock. "Not only that, but how did you dodge my tranquilizer darts!?"

As it turns out, Judy had a pretty good aim with her tranquilizer gun. She was so good that she actually pitied anyone who dared end up on the wrong side of the law!

 And yet, here she was and she had just missed a fox and a wolf! Even worse, they were making fools out of her and they were getting closer to getting away too!

"I don't know what you two are doing, but I'm going to arrest you or my name isn't Judy Hopps!" Judy Hopps swore.

Nick was pretty confused too about what was happening. But he figured that with the threat of possibly getting arrested again, that should be the last thing on his mind for now.

Try as she might, every time Judy kept missing Kane and Nick Wilde! This really got to her!

Eventually, Kane and Nick Wilde had reached their car and wasted no time getting inside and locking the car doors. Kane knew that he and Nick were good now and he didn't even bother using The Chronos to slow time yet again.

Judy tried to chase after Kane and Nick, but they both drove away in their car and quickly left her behind in their dust! There was nothing Judy could do about it as she watched them get away before losing sight of them!

Judy then got very angry and she didn't know what to think. How could she, one of the best officers in the ZPD, have so much trouble with that wolf and Nick Wilde!?

Judy clenched her paws tightly. She had seen just what she and the ZPD were up against and she would have to be a lot craftier and cautious with dealing with Kane and Nick Wilde in the future. But she vowed that next time, things would be different and she would track those two criminals down and bring them to justice!

As for Kane and Nick Wilde, they were both happy to have made their getaway. Nick Wilde was very relieved and said that they should go back to their hideout and finally get some sleep again.

But Kane knew better than that and reminded Nick that Judy knew what car they were using and surely had its license plate number as well. They would have to ditch their current car as soon as possible and get another one or Judy and the rest of the ZPD would easily be able to track them down whenever they were driving around out in the streets!

Kane also advised against continuing to use their current hideout anymore as he wanted to find another place for them to lay low just to be safe. Even though where they had been staying had been abandoned for awhile, with the ZPD after both Kane and Nick Wilde and searching everywhere, it was only a matter of time before they stumbled upon their hideout, which made finding a new one a wise decision.

Nick Wilde complained about being tired, so wanting to get him to be quiet for a bit, Kane told him that he could just get comfy and sleep in the car as he drove for awhile until he figured things out. Nick didn't argue and quickly fell asleep in his seat just like that!

As for Kane, he couldn't afford to sleep now as he had to stay up and keep his eyes on the road. The last thing he and Nick needed was to end up in a car crash! But speaking of sleep, that reminded Kane of his strange dream last night.

He remembered how he had dreamt of that mysterious girl called Leslie and that she had mentioned and I quote 'Only one'. 'Only one?' Kane thought. 'What's that supposed to mean!?'

Then, something else occurred to Kane Karter. He realized that now that he thought of it, he didn't know any girls called girls called Leslie. Yet, for some reason, he thought he may have heard of her from somewhere, but he didn't know where!

Deciding that he had other things to think about then the mystery of his dream and this Lesley girl, Kane just shrugged it off like he had when he had woken up from that dream. Still, Kane wondered why he had had that dream of that girl in the first place!
