"rAcHeL?" Rachel mocked, "Seriously Percy? I haven't seen you in forever and that's the first thing you say to me?"
Annabeth scoffed. "Well there's no need to be rude to him—"
" No, no  Annabeth it's fine! When did you get back?!"  Percy said excitedly.
Rachel explained that she actually had just arrived to the city. She had gotten kicked out of her fancy school for spray painting a mural on one of the walls. She definitely looked like a trouble maker with her fiery red hair and the crazy gleam in her eyes but she had this way of calming people down when she talked. Rachel had been one of Percys oldest friends and he was glad she was home.
"Ah! I'm so sorry I haven't introduced myself. It's super rude," Rachel said turning to Annabeth."Yeah. Kind of..."
Percy stared at the ground. On one hand Rachel was a good friend, on the other he had to live with Annabeth. If he pissed off either of them, his life would be a living hell. He decided to not get into it. Rachel extended her hand and luckily Annabeth shook it.
     "I'm Annabeth."
Rachel smiled kindly, "nice to meet you, Annabeth."
Percy thought that was kind of funny. The interaction was not pleasant but Rachel loved "killing people with kindness." It was actually how they became friends. They were sitting together in art class when someone purposely spilled paint all over Rachel. Instead of starting a fight, which was what Percy would have done, Rachel smiled. The girl got so flustered that she just left her alone.
"I gotta run but I'll text you later Percy!" Rachel kissed his cheek and waved bye.
      "Well she was...something."
Percy snorted. "What do you mean she was 'something' you literally just met her."
"Whatever," said Annabeth, "let's shop."
So Percy and Annabeth picked up a shopping cart and went through the isles grabbing whatever was cheap and necessary. They were going down one isle when Annabeth stopped and picked up a pack of olives in cups.
"What? It's a comfort food!"
"No,no," Percy said quickly, "I'm not judging because I've eaten way weirder stuff. I'm just confused as to when they started putting Olives in little to go cups like it's applesauce."
Annabeth shrugged, "I don't care, I'm just glad they did."
Percy found himself smiling a lot. He liked talking with Annabeth. She was pretty cool when she wasn't so uptight. They brought up random things while Percy threw items into the cart like basketballs. Annabeth really liked architecture and wouldn't shut up about how pretty some places in the city were, but he didn't mind. He found it endearing when people talked about their favorite things. The way their eyes light up when you ask them questions about it never failed to make him smile.
Percy was heading towards check out when Annabeth stopped him.
"Wait, I need to grab some stuff for my hair and a few things for when Luke comes over. I'll pay for that separately though. You can wait here if you want. It shouldn't take long."
"No, I'll come. I should probably grab stuff too. Hygiene or whatever," Percy replied, which, to his surprise, made Annabeth laugh.
"3 in 1, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash! Are you serious?
"What?" Annabeth said getting defensive, "I never had a mom around to teach me about hair products and i never really bothered to care. Anyways this works fine."
"Hey i'm not judging! I just thought girls used a different scented liquid for every part of their body."
"I'm sure your friend Rachel does," Annabeth muttered.
"And what is that supposed to mean?"
"Well you said something about her fancy school so I can only assume she has money. She probably never had to worry about finding an apartment let alone picking the right shampoo."
"I'm not even gonna comment on that."
They put the shampoo and some deodorant in the cart and headed to checkout. Then Annabeth grabbed some popcorn and a bunch of different candies. After paying, they made their way back to the apartment, Percy insisting on carrying the heavier bags.
When they got inside the two immediately began to unload the groceries. It was quiet until Percy looked at Annabeth with a straight face while holding up a box of cereal.
"What's a cheerleaders favorite kind of cereal?" he asked, suppressing a smile. "Cheerios!"
"That was so cheesy," she replied while holding a block of cheddar cheese.
Percy grabbed the milk and laughed saying, "It would be utterly impossible for me to make a joke that isn't."
"You're cracking me up!" Annabeth said with the eggs in her hand. That's when they both broke into a fit of giggles. Annabeth hadn't realized how badly she needed to laugh. "Okay, okay! Luke's coming over tomorrow and I have to wake up early to clean. Night Percy."
