Chapter 01: Beauty

"Stop the killings! No to Martial Law rule!" I heard their loud shouting while holding their protest cards, some of them are holding a banner to emphasize what is the purpose of the rally. The man is standing in a podium holding a megaphone with the bravery on his eyes as if he wants a change in this country.

Our van stopped because of the heavy traffic that is common here in the Philippines, if you're a foreigner you will also get stressed because of this heavy traffic that will make your head boil. The van is between two large trucks but I can see the people who are rallying in the wide road.

They got my attention because of how brave they want to open the minds of the Filipinos, they are rallying because of the news that there's a chance that Martial Law will return.

"Stop terrorism, end Martial Law!"

Napasinghap nalang ako dahil sa reyalidad na nakikita ko silang nag-rarally na may tunguhin, nasa iisang puwesto lang sila at naka-bantay ang ilang mga pulis sa kanila para maging organisado ang kanilang protesta.

Because of this traffic, I got the chance to see the people that wants to enlighten and fight for their rights. I'm glad that they have the consent to do the protest because as I can see in the news, there are some articles that Martial law might be proposed again.

What is Martial Law?

It's the suspension of the ordinary law and it will be changed as a military government. As I can see, that law is a big disadvantage for us Filipinos and even the other countries. There's a chance that the Martial Law will lead to chaos, that law has a lot of history in the past years and I don't want to experience it.

Kahit na nasa iisang lugar lang sila nag-rarally ay hindi pa rin ito maiiwasan ang mabigat na traffic, hindi ko nga alam kung umaandar pa kami dahil sa haba at tagal na namin dito sa puwesto namin.

"Stand up for the justice, human rights and just peace is better!" lahat sila ay nag-kakaisa para ilahad ang kanilang opinyon sa tsansang ipatupad ang Martial Law, lahat ng na-stuck sa traffic ay naka-tingin lang sa kanila at panay rin ang tango na para bang payag sila dito.

Hindi pa rin naandar ang van namin na dahilan para pag-masdan ko lang ang mga taong nag-rarally na may katuturan, may mga karatula sila at mga painting na kung saan may iba't-ibang mukha ito na para bang makikilatis mo na sa isang demonyo.

I pressed my lips as I saw the big head figure of the President getting burned by the activists. Every year they always do this kind of protest in a wide area to say their thoughts about the President's handling to the country.

"Wow," I was amazed at how large their props are, as if they want to voice out their thoughts about what is going to happen on our country, I can't believe that they can predict the chances of having chaos in the country because of the law.

They gathered all the topics that made them confused and upset at the same time, I know my country is not perfect but the reason why this country is losing the faith and the future, is because of the people who are sitting in the government.

Mas lalong lumaki ang sunog sa malaking figure ng presidente, unti-unti na itong nasisira dahil sa apoy na kumakalat dito na at iyon rin ang naging dahilan para maagaw nila ang mga atensyon ng mga taong dumadaan.

I shook my head because I can feel that I'm getting stressed already. Someday, I want to be with them and hold a banner to enlighten my fellow Filipinos, but this is not the right time because I have a fashion show to work on.

"Kuya, puwede bang mag-shortcut ka nalang, baka mamaya ma-late ako sa fashiom show." ang sabi ko at binuksan ang phone ko para saglitan na tingnan ang oras pero hindi ko inaasahan ang isang notification galing kay Pauline, she's my friend who is also part of the fashion show.
