Foliage blinked his weary eyes. His entire body ached, but he was alive, which was better that he could have hoped for. His talons scratched against some cold dirt, and he realized that he had hit his head on the opening of an underground cave and tumbled inside. He poked his head out of the cave's opening. The storm was over, and the battle was evidently over as well. Foliage saw the glint of silver-and-blue scales approaching -- two MistWing soldiers, out on patrol. He quickly ducked back into the tunnel and watched as they passed by.

"I was AWESOME out there, Nimbus!" crowed one of the MistWings. "We DOMINATED them! Their village is OURS! Their KINGDOM will be ours! We are going to win this war!" "Silver, focus on the task at hand," growled the other soldier -- Nimbus. "Have you forgotten that both Queen Pine and General Amber slipped through our talons? Queen Monsoon ordered us not to stop until we've found them, and that is exactly what we're going to do." "FINE," groaned Silver. "But I still say I was AMAZING."

Foliage could feel his heart racing. The MistWings hadn't captured his mother -- yet -- but his entire village was in their control. As much as he hated the thought, he knew there was no turning back now. Since he was the general's son, the MistWings would likely capture or kill him as soon as he laid a talon in the village of Pinecone. He couldn't cross the kingdom either -- the MistWing patrols would undoubtedly find him. He glanced into the tunnel, which led into seemingly endless darkness.  Foliage didn't like the idea of wandering blindly through the tunnel, but he supposed a possible death was better than a guaranteed death.

Foliage pushed his way through the tunnel, breathing  plumes of fire to light his way. Finally, he saw a beam of light creaking into the tunnel, and he frantically clawed his way up the steep slope in front of him. Relived, Foliage climbed out of the tunnel and stared ahead. A massive wall of stone stared back.
