I looked up at Zayn while I floated in my pool.
"Are you sure you don't wanna get in?" I asked.
"I'm sure," he answered, "you know I can't swim."
He dangled his feet in the water and lightly splashed me. He pulled me up to him and kissed me. I sat down next to him.
"So why don't you want to see the rest of One Direction?" I said.
"It's not that I don't want to see them. It would just be awkward at this point."
"I don't think so. They'd love it if you hung out with them. I'm sure they miss you. And I know Katherine does."
"Yeah, I miss them all too. Katherine really misses me?" He asked.
"Of course. You guys are all like brothers to her. When was the last time you saw her?"
"The end of last year."
"Oh, I thought it would've been longer."
"No, we keep in touch. I try to see her every now and then."
"Do you wanna go to her house later today? I think Celene and Harry will be there."
"Not really."
"Why not?"
"I'm not ready to see anyone yet."
"Come on Zayn, I think it'll be fun."
"No, I don't want to go." Zayn's phone started ringing and he got up to answer it.
I got back into the water while he talked on the phone.
When he was done, he walked over to me, looking very worried, "I have to go."
"Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, I'll see you late love," he bent down to kiss my forehead and left.
-
"Who do you think called him?" Katherine asked as we hung out in her basement.
"I don't know. He just had this nervous look on his face," I answered.
"It was probably nothing," Louis said, "he overreacts sometimes."
"Yeah," Katherine said, "I wouldn't worry about it."
"Drinks anyone?" Harry walked behind the bar.
"Hey that's my job!" Katherine ran over to him, "You suck at making drinks. How many times do I have to tell you?" She nudged him.
We all stood up and walked over to the bar.
"I'm gonna make old fashioneds," Katherine said as she grabbed the glasses, "You can help me Harry."
He smiled, "Awww," and wrapped his arms around her.
"Get off me," she laughed and shook him off.
"I don't even like bourbon," Celene said.
"I know. I'm making you a sangria."
Celene grinned.
I sat down on a bar stool and rested my head on my arms. Katherine showed Harry how to make the old fashioneds and she began making Celene's sangria.
"I just, I don't understand why Zayn wouldn't tell me what happened. We're so close, our relationship is great," I ranted.
"I'm sure he'll eventually tell you," Katherine said.
"Just give him some time," Celene chimed in.
-
The next day, I got a call from Zayn.
