Chapter 9

Championships.

We need to play 5 games every other day within two weeks. And today is the first game, held in our University gymnasium.

I'm nervous. This is my last chance to play and take back the Championship trophy that was snatched from us last year.

"Listen girls. This might be the first game but we need to have an advantage and take our first win. We can't lower our guard. We will finish this Championship in 3 games with straight win! Got it?"

"Yes Coach!"

Me and my teammates shouted.

"Okay guys, same play same strategy. I want you all to focus and listen to Coach's instruction! One team!"

"One win!"

They responded.

And then we prepared ourselves for the game.

As usual, the bleachers supporting us are full and loud, mostly my face are scattered in a single banner upto a group tarpaulin. I just shook my head whenever the opposing team give me looks.

"They're curious about you Chae. They haven't seen you last year and some newbies from that team doesn't know you."

I sighed. "I know."

Seulgi just laughed at me and proceeded to do warm-up exercise.

I am not just nervous about the game. I am also nervous about Yeri's plan later in which I don't have a single freaking idea of what it is.

"Captain, Ms. Yeri is calling out."

One of my freshman teammate tapped me from the back and pointed Yeri from the bleachers. She's signalling me to come over.

"What?"

I asked her when I got near.

"Just take this."

She took out a wrist band from her side pocket and put it on me.

"Don't ask questions, just smile and walk away." She said while faking a smile.

I don't know what is this for but I just did what she told me to. When I came back to my team, they are all looking at me and smiled malisciously.

"What?"

I asked but they just looked away and continued warming up.

Then finally, the whistle for this game has been blown.

The game is tight. We are just 5 points ahead against the other team and there's still 2 minutes remaining for the final quarter.

They can still turn the tables so we need to tighten up our defense and not let them shoot.

I was guarding the opposing point guard when the ball was stolen by Seulgi. I immediately ran towards our basket and Seulgi successfully passed it to me.

I stepped inside the 3-point area but the opposing team are so fast that they are already under the basket to guard. I will be totally disadvantaged if I forced myself in, so I took 3 steps back.

I passed the ball to Seulgi and went outside the 3-point lane. She understood my plan and quickly passed the ball back to me. Without wasting time, I jumped to throw a 3 point shot when I was blocked from behind causing me to fall hard on the floor.

Foul!

I was given 3 free throws. I successfully took two consecutive shots. I looked at the time board above.
