I'm not sure whether it was the food or the lack of sleep from the night before but I must have dozed off in the truck. The last thing I remembered was being put into the truck before the familiar nightmare of being alone in the woods with Chris plagued my mind.
I wasn't sure how but this time the dream seemed to be more vivid and real than the last, so much so that when I felt someone shaking me and opened my eyes I flinched, tears already streaming down my face.
I blinked, unfamiliar with where I was other than being in Spencer's truck. I turned to the open door and looked down to see him looking at me with concern etched all over his face.
"Averleigh, come on, shh, It was just a dream!" He said pulling me down out of the truck into his arms.He held me tight for a while, until I was finally able to compose myself. I didn't know how I was going to explain this to him. It was after all just a dream, and a stupid one at that. Chris may be a cheating dumb ass, but aside from the recent drunk situation at the bar, he had never hit me. I mean he had his moments where he was pushy with being intimate, but I always agreed before we did anything. Maybe I was just subconsciously warning myself that Chris was no longer a good option, even though I already knew that.
"Spence I'm sorry!" I muttered into his chest.
"Hey, no apology needed. Even I get bad dreams, you can't control them. But I'm here if you need to talk!" He muttered into my ear squeezing me tight before letting me go.Now composed, I was able to see the beautiful lake at the bottom of the hill. At the end of the dock was a round wooden canopy, with candles set on each ledge overlooking the lake. Spencer took my hand in his, not pressuring for more information on my dream and led me down the path to the dock.
"It's beautiful!" I said looking out at the water.
"Yes it is!" He smiled as I felt the heat of his gaze on me.
We walked down the dock to the canopy and sat down on a blanket that was laid in the middle. A wicker basket sat beside the blanket and Spencer opened the side, pulling out some strawberries and warm melted chocolates.
"Lets just say my mother has staff that make romance a lot easier!" He smiled.
"This is perfect Spencer!" I replied shivering slightly as the cool air caught my exposed shoulders.
"Here!" He said removing his suit jacket and placing it over my shoulders.
It smelt just like him, as I nuzzled my cheek into the fabric .For a while we sat as he fed me strawberries covered in chocolate, occasionally allowing me to return the favor. The chocolate ran out first, leading to a fight of strawberries. We were both laughing when I threw the last strawberry, striking him right between the eyes.
"Hey!" He laughed pulling me to him as he tried to keep his balance.
We both froze for a moment, our bodies close, our faces even closer. My nose was resting on his as I looked into his eyes, searching for some kind of sign, but for what I had no clue.
He closed his eyes, almost debating with himself, when I tenderly pressed my lips to his.The kiss was slow, but filled with more raw emotion than I could ever express with words. I placed my hand on his cheek, taking the lead, knowing that I was falling harder and harder with each moment. His hands remained on the ground beside my waist, as if he was afraid that touching me would lead to more than either of us needed, even if it was what we both wanted.
Our lips caressed each other and when I tried to part his lips with my tongue he didn't resist, but held his restraint. After a few more minutes, Spencer's hand moved to rest over mine. He pulled away first kissing the top of my nose before pulling me into his lap to look over the lake.
It was getting dark, and the hue of oranges, pinks and purples in the sky were the perfect end to a perfect date. We sat content in each others company, his arms wrapped around me as we listened to the lapping of the waves on the shore.
