I got up quietly and began getting dressed. I slipped down the side of the bed to sit on the floor opening my suitcase. Much to my surprise it was completely empty. Spencer I thought to myself. I pulled myself up on the bed and attempted to walk to the closet. One step into my trip I felt the pain radiating through my leg. Clenching my teeth I willed my way to the closet, grabbing a knee length dress and collapsing on the floor.
I gripped and massaged the spot on my leg, hoping the pain would subside. It didn't. I quickly slipped the dress on and then opted to scoot on my butt out of the room and down the stairs. It would have been hilarious if it weren't for the sheer agony I felt with each movement of my leg. Almost like each small move someone was punching my thigh with extreme force.
Eventually I got to the bottom of the stairs where a set of crutches was leaned against the coat rack by the door. I grabbed them and began maneuvering through the house, eventually finding everyone outside in the yard.
"Mommy?" Jacob smiled rushing over to hug me.
"Hey baby! Careful you'll knock me over!"
"Come watch us! Mr Spencer got us a cool truck to ride in! It has lights and everything!" He exaggerated.
"I'd love to!" I smiled before hobbling to the bench Spencer was sitting on.He was sitting with his computer in his lap facing away from me. I quietly rested my crutches on the back of the bench and leaned over, wrapping my arms around his neck and leaning over to kiss his cheek.
"Morning handsome!" I whispered.
He turned to face me, and gave me a quick peck on the lips.
"You're supposed to be resting!" He scolded me before turning back to his computer.
"I can rest out here too!" I replied hopping around the bench to sit beside him.He continued to type on his computer as the kids played and I enjoyed the fresh air. He seemed tense as he frantically worked in silence for over an hour. Occasionally he would glance up to see where the kids were and to make sure I was okay, but mostly he was focused on work.
I tried to glance at his screen a few times, but whatever work he was doing involved some weird gamer coding and I had no clue what any of it meant.
"Spence are you okay?" I asked breaking the silence.
"Yeah why?" He replied, still typing away.
"You just seem tense today?" I sighed. He let out a deep breath and set his computer to the side before turning to face me.
"Hey, I love you!" He smiled. "I love them, I love you all being here and being able to take care of you. Please don't ever think I don't, but I had a big project we were working on for a new game before you got hurt. Then with the time off at the hospital and then getting everyone settled in, I just fell behind. I love you and the munchkins, I just need to squeeze some work into the day, which means I have to zone out and focus!" He explained.
"Okay, you know if you need a break or some space we can go to Baileys?" I replied.
"Averleigh seriously it's not a problem! The kids are great! I'm just trying to make everything work for us! I want to do this okay?" He grabbed my hand squeezing it.
"Okay!" I replied as he leaned in to kiss my nose!
"Anyway I'm pretty much done with the coding, I just need to send it off to the team to go over. How about we get everyone inside for lunch?"
"I could definitely eat! I grinned. As we sat down to eat lunch my phone began ringing. I looked at the caller ID and hit block. I didn't feel like talking to Chris, especially since he had probably heard about my accident at work by now. I placed the phone back down and started to eat when it began ringing again.
"You should probably get that honey?" Spencer said.
"Not right now!" I gave him a stern look and put my phone on silent. "It can wait until we are done eating!"
We all sat together and the kids told me all about the cool things Spencer was doing with them. When finished our meal and the kids went upstairs to play. They seemed to be more than at home here, and even seemed to be very comfortable with Spencer.
