A couple weeks had passed since Chris informed me of his impending wedding, and today was finally the day I had been dreading. I coincidentally had the weekend off after returning to work a few days ago. The kids weren't actually a part of the ceremony, but to save face he still wanted them to be there.

He had been an ass when I told him I would be bringing a date, but I didn't care. He could do this on my terms or not at all. In reality I would rather be sitting a anywhere but here in his mother's back yard, while he stood mere strides away awaiting his bride from whoresville.

The kids were sitting down to my left, not at all interested in the show their father was trying to put on. They hadn't once asked about him since that first time over the tree house, and in all honesty they were happy. We were back in our house, but occasionally we would all stay at Spencer's, usually joined by Bailey, Zac, and the kids, since his house was considerably bigger, and had enough rooms for everyone.

Spencer say to my left, dressed in a suit and even though I'm a little bias, he was stunningly sexy. In fact many of the brides friends had been eyeballing him since we walked in. I would have been jealous if it weren't for the fact he was so wrapped up in the kids that he didn't even notice.

When the music began to announce the bride walk and the bridesmaids walked down the aisle I had to fight to keep my face straight. This whole thing was uncomfortable as hell, the kids didn't even need to be here. I didn't even notice my hands shaking at my side until Spencer subtlety' took one of my hands in his and squeezed it. The nerves almost instantly left my body as the bride, whatever her name was, began walking down the makeshift aisle.

Her hair was up in a messy bridal bun, and her makeup was applied thickly. The dress was plain white silk, in a mermaid cut that had been altered to add a long open slit to her upper thigh on the left leg. She was smiling as she made her way up to Chris and even though he smiled back I couldn't help but notice his glances towards me and Spencer.

Everyone finally sat down as the preacher began reciting the vows with them. My hands were tightly wrapped in Spencer's as the preacher asked if anyone objected to the marriage. Chris glanced at me expectantly before turning back to his bride as the preacher pronounced them officially married.

I had honestly expected it to hurt, watching him say I do. It had hurt so much when he announced he was getting married yet here and now all I cared about was the man beside me and the kids. Spencer had helped me until I was better, shown me love like no one else, and continued to adore the kids as much as he could.

As the ceremony wrapped up the yard was quickly transformed into the reception. The first dance came and went, and before I knew it I was being danced around in circles, held firmly in Spencer's arms. As we danced he dropped his face to whisper in my ear.
"You're doing just fine honey, just a little while longer and we can go!"

I smiled and leaned up to kiss him, placing a small peck on the side of his cheek.
"Ahem?" A voice came from behind me.
I turned to look and saw Chris's mom looking between us.
"Averleigh, how have you been dear?" She asked.
"Laura. It's so good to see you. Congrats on the new addition to the family!" I smiled trying not to be bitter. My resentment wasn't against her, she had been nothing but kind to me.
"Yeah, it was definitely a shock, not that he was getting married, just that you weren't the bride." Her face dropped slightly before she plastered on a smile. "Anyway I hope you know that regardless you and the kids are always welcome here!"
"Thank you!" I smiled giving her a hug.

"So why don't you introduce me to this handsome young man!" She glanced at Spencer.
"I'm so sorry. Spencer this is chris's mom Laura, Laura this is my boyfriend Spencer." I smiled leaning into him.
"It's a pleasure to meet you!" Spencer smiled politely.
"Likewise, make sure you don't mess up like my son. This one is special and no matter what she is always family!" Laura said.
"Oh I know just how special she is!"
"Well I will let you guys get back to it. I think Chris is with the kids, so I'm going to get my hugs in before you guys leave! I know it can't be easy being here, especially given the date!" She added sympathetically.
