After Christmas break Caylen started asking a whole bunch of questions about Kenzie. It was like her new hobby and she wouldn't give up. "So do you think he's single?" She said loudly. I didn't want to talk about Kenzie with her. I knew Caylen. She would lead a guy on until she got bored then she drops them when she no long has interest in them. "Caylen ...can we not talk about him?" I said a little frustrated.
"Why? You already have Noah...come on Dani !" She said sounding snotty. She wasn't getting it. I didn't like Kenzie like that but I did care about him and his feelings. "Listen he's my friend and ...". "What, I'm not your friend?" Caylen shot back.
"You are but so is he and I don't want to talk about it any more!" I said pulling back on the door at the front of the school. She wouldn't let it go so at lunch I made the decision. When we got to my car I started, "Listen Caylen... I want to leave Kenzie alone...". Once I explained the whole story to her I begged her again, "Please please please Cay just skip over Kenzie ... you don't need him ...".
She seemed to understand but I was still worried. A week and a half later I was standing with the boys waiting for Kenzie when I found out. As I watched Kenzie walk towards us with Caylen hanging off his arm,I could feel the anger rising up inside of me. "Hi Kenzie can I borrow her for a minute.." I said trying to hide my mood as I yanked her away.
"What the hell ! You promise me! " I said quietly. She looked at me innocently, "Well we talked and it just kind happened!". I knew better, "Caylen, I'm telling you now if you hurt him I swear to god!" Caylen gave me a look before pulling her arm from my grip. "Relax ...god!".
That night I called Kenzie. "Hello?". "Kenzie? Listen ! I know Caylen and she will only stick around until she gets broad!". He laughed, "Dani ... I'm sure she's not that bad...". He didn't sound so sure to me though. "But Kenzie... what about ... ". "Casey?" He said cutting me off. "I'll be fine!".
After a week of them going out, we went to a party. Naturally Caylen had on a tiny dress. It looked to be at least 2 sizes too small. "Don't you just love it!?" She exclaimed spinning around. I couldn't do anything but roll my eyes.
"She's gonna hurt him...and there's nothing we can do ..."I sighed, as I walked in to the kitchen. "I know but you tried and that's what counts." Noah said trying to comfort me. As I took a big sip of my drink, I hear it. "I love you!" It was Caylen as she sauntered into the room. Her words made me spit out my mouthful and began coughing uncontrollably. Noah and Kenzie rushed to help me as Caylen huffed and rolled her eyes.
After I regained myself I walked away from all of them and went outside. I was furious. How could she do that knowing what he went through? "Dani? ..". It was Noah. "Did you hear that?" I said tears pouring down my face. He wrapped me in his sweater and hugged me. I hadn't realized how cold I was. It was still winter and all I had on was a pair of jeans and a tank top. (I took my sweater off inside and in my haste I forgot to get it.)
"You did everything you could ...now we just have to wait it out." he said rubbing my back. This. This is why I love Noah. He is so caring and understanding.
Yet another week passed and I could tell something was up with Caylen. She was always busy and she would lie to everyone about what she was doing. One day I got wise and followed her. Sure enough, I was right she got into some guys car.
The next day at school I confronted her, "Caylen we need to talk!". "Not now.." she said snottily. "No! Now!" I demanded. Once I got her away from our group I flew into her, "I know you've been sneaking around with other guys...how COULD you ?". She just shrugged, "I Dunno...". "NO that's not good enough! You knew and you did the same to him anyway!"I continued getting louder.
" Well this isn't my fault! You're constantly with all those guys... how was I suppose to feel!" She said. "Oh no don't give me that! Their my friends and you hop from guy to guy all the time! I TOLD you to leave him alone but you couldn't, could you?!". I was fuming. Caylen was offended but I was too pissed to care. "I do not.".
I noticed a crowd was forming. "Well ... I'm sorry..." she said. I knew she wasn't, "No you're not..You always do this. .. I BEGGED you to just leave him alone and you couldn't do that...". I turned and walked out the back exit but she followed me. "No I am!" She said innocently. "Caylen ...Get away from me right now..." I shot still walking away.
"Please...Kenzie's an assh***e anyway so I don't get why it matters! I was your friend first!" She said stopping. I stopped dead in my tracks and spun on my heels. It was like I lost control. Without a second thought I punched her right in the face. "He's a real friend...Don't ever talk to me or them again!".
On the drive to Kenzie's I contemplated going back. No because I didn't regret it.
When Kenzie opened his front door I explained the whole story to him. He refused to believe me. "Kenzie please! It's the truth !", I begged as he slammed the door.
I didn't know where to go, so after a while I went to the spot. As I walked through the snow, it crunched loudly and the wind swirled loudly through the trees. Once I made it there, I sat and started to cry hard.
