Chapter 6: Glimpse

I looked at the old movie theater once more. It was that different from where I last saw it. I heard that all of the worst movies were shown in January, and of course I agreed with that. I might get a lot of hate but.... We don't want any catastrophes like I, Frankenstein do we?

I remember that one of my favorite movies from a while ago was a small flick called Ponyo. I saw it with my mother when I was eleven for fun. I might have been a bit too old to see it, but it was still a great movie.

Mikey grabbed the handlebars of my wheelchair once again and started to roll me into the building.

Once two sliding glass doors slid open, we were hit with a blast of cold air. The air conditioning systems were blasting at the highest power which was actually making me quite cold.

The roof was quite high, and slanted downwards making a weird shape. There was a red velvet rope that stretched out the borders of the ticket line. Popcorn and other snacks were sold off to the left, with the movies on the right. We only got ice cream before, and its been awhile since Mikey's eaten breakfast, so maybe we could get a small meal.

He rolled me up to the side of the velvet ropes, while I ran my slim fingers alond them. They were soft in texture, but there was a hard metal bar inside of it. Red was an okay color, to be honest I like: purple, black, and a mixture of a light and dark blue. Its hard to explain...

Before I knew it we were further up in the line and I was getting a bit nervous. What were we going to watch? I looked at a small electronic board with the times and names of all the movies playing.

One that caught my eye was "If I Stay". In the high school I go to it was a pretty popular choice with all the teenage girls and all of their drama. Actually I'm going through a lot of drama myself with Foxy and Mikey...

I heard the movie was really sad, like the kind of sad level that it would make you cry. If I remember correctly, Mikey loves to go here a lot so he might have already seen this movie. Hopefully he hasn't... I would watch any movie with him though.

"Can we see If I Stay?" I asked quietly so only he could hear it. He smiled a sly smile and squeezed my shoulder a bit.

"Of course we can! I actually wanted to see it also". I smiled as he pushed me forwards more. I could feel the slight stretch of rubber underneath my seat as it moved it's way to adjust to my size.

We finally got to the end of the line and all that was left was employees giving out tickets and taking money. I've actually never thought about what I wanted to work as when I grew up. The thought just never appeared in my mind. Everybody else seemed to have their whole lives planned out, then you had me. Where did I fit in?

My knees brushed the surface of the red and yellow painted desk and Mikey started talking to the man behind it.

He was around our age, probably his first job actually. He had black hair that stuck to his neck, and wore the traditional red uniform. Something I noticed was that his black hair was rimmed with white which made it stand out more. That was actually really cool!

His light brown eyes were always darting between Mikey and me, not really focusing on one of us. It could be that he had to keep eye contact with every costumer, but it was probably that he wanted to look at the person in the wheelchair...

He must have gotten a lot of customers like me before. There's no way this is his first time seeing someone like this. Then again probably not a lot of crippled people go to movies. There was a section for people with disabilities, but they were never taken.

The teen smiled and handed us our tickets. He gave them to Mikey, but Mikey handed them down to me, entrusting me with holding the tickets. Mikey smiled and patted me, softly, on the head. It wasn't much, but it was enough to make my heart flutter.

We headed over to the snack area, getting some popcorn and sodas, and heading towards our theater. It wasn't packed, but there was a reasonable amount of people inside. The small sound of chatter mixed together with people chewing their food, making any theater recognizable.

We took a seat near the front, like the handicap signs instructed us, and started to sip on our drinks right away. I was never really one to wait before eating in movies. The food would always mock me, telling me to eat it, then I eventually gave into the temptations.

The red, plastic, straw rested between my index and middle finger. My nails were slowly moving their way around the tip of the straw. I was putting all my attention into this, like I was sniping in the war.

I eventually had to stop though, hearing the sound of the occasional commercials stop. I was glad I did though because Mikey gently laid his hand a top of mine, making my cheeks warm up.

The movie went by relatively fast. It did make me cry, especially at the end. It was no surprise, but she decided to stay. I mean, what kind of movie would it be if she died in the end? It would be more depressing then it had to be.

Everyone behind us started to clap once it was over, which led to me doing the same. I've never seen people clap at the end of a movie before. Is it a recent thing?

We decided to leave, not checking out anything else in the place. There might have been an arcade or something, but at the same time there probably wasn't.

We went back out the door, heading to the car. I looked over to my left where the new mall was located. It was a large white building with many different stores inside of it.

A flash of red, yellow, and brown flashed across my vision. I didn't think much about it at first, it could've been an employee on break. Then the image cleared itself revealing Foxy, Chica, and Freddy. They were looking around nervously and tapping posters to different walls. I couldn't see from this distance what they said, but if I got closer I could find out.

I looked away, the spirit in me returning. I could finally see my old friends again! I could live without them when I'm with Mikey, but it would be good to see them. It would probably be idea to just plainly asked him if I could go see them though. I would have to be a lot sneakier.

A small smile spread across my face, finalizing my plan. Before we could get back into the car I spoke up, shattering the silence between us.

"Mikey, could we go to the mall?" I asked, trying not to sound suspicious. "Its new and I wanted to see what it was like!" It wasn't really my stile to go to places like that, but hopefully he wouldn't catch on to that.

He looked confused for a couple of seconds, but soon his smile returned.

"Anything for you, Bonnie!"
