I took a peek outside my doorframe. The hallway was dark, the lights turned all the way off for some reason. I’m not sure where my brother went, he just kinda disappeared. On the other hand he told me to stay here, that he would be coming back soon. He wouldn’t lie to me, right? Right!
I sat up in bed, the covers parting around me. My heart beat faster than Usain Bolt running in the Olympics. That’s probably not a good thing. Sweat dripped down my forehead and landed on my arms. I was right. The same old nightmare.
I have to get out of bed though. I don’t want to stay confined in here all day. That’d just be bad for my health, but I’m not saying that I don’t do that some days…
I rolled out of bed, trying not to fall on the floor. I could feel that here was crust under my eyes almost shutting them completely. I had to get through it, I needed to go to work anyway.
Oh yea! I got a job. Since the time that Mike left I got a job as a mechanic before college. I’m still in high school but Spring Break is almost here and I’ll be almost done with this. I’ve always wondered what college was like…
I’m not sure if Foxy is awake yet though the time should tell me that. He usually gets up early despite going to sleep late. The little rectangular clock to my right told me that it was 8:20 so he should be up.
I stretched my right hand in the air like I was trying to answer a question in class. That brings back a lot of memories…
I had to get changed quickly. The shop opened at nine and I didn’t want to be late. My boss, a man in his mid thirties, was a nice person but he can get angry fast.
I slid open the door to my closet and the mess that greeted me wasn’t kind at all. I guess you can say I’ve been slipping a little bit. I like my job, a lot actually, but that combined with school is really tough. I’m usually stuck staying up until midnight studying.
I picked out my uniform, blue, baggy, and smudged in some places. What’d you expect from working in a car repair shop? It’s not anything flashy but at least it’s comfortable.
I quickly grabbed the matching pants and my gray sneakers. Before I did anything I looked out the window, getting lost in the angelic glow you call sunlight. The best sun is always on a Sunday.
Shaking my head I got down to business. Tossing clothes here and there, and quickly putting them on. My phone was laying on a little dresser next to my bed. The thing was so tiny in this huge world. I leaped over to it and stuffed it inside my pants pocket. You never know when you get a super important call from a secret agent at work. He might even ask you to save the country.
Anyway I ran over to my door and flung it open. Foxy was sitting on the couch, already dressed, and staring at the tv. I’m not sure if all that exposure is healthy for him, but if that’s what he wants to do… I have no say in it.
He looked over at me, his eyes obviously strained. He might’ve been up all night the way he looked. He immediately smiled and switched off the tv, a small cry escaping it before it went off completely.
“You ready for work?” He asked then yawning straight after. I really wanted to bring him with me, I think it’ll be a cool experience for him. He told me that he dropped out of school, but he should at least try to get a job.
“Yeah, but you don’t look ready to drive.” I paused and looked at the ground. I didn’t want him to feel stressed. “I can take the bus if you’re still half asleep.”
I sigh could be heard from in front of me and a rough hand was placed on my head. He ruffled my hair, that now fell down to the tip of my shoulders, and got up.
