A/N: HAPPY 9 YEARS TO THE FIRST BODYGUARD!!!!! It's a ride reworking this story, but I'm happy for the joy it has brought others the past years, and especially for those who found it during COVID last year and this year. You guys brought me back and really pulled out of a writing stump. There are no words for how grateful I am!
Please enjoy a sneak peak of the rewrite AFTER THIS SHORT CHAPTER.
A few things:
Melody's name is changed in the rewrite - and she is no longer British American :) She is Afro-Latina (which will be reflected in the cover once I rework that too)
Enjoy:)
After: 9: Jasper
I started to get up, on instinct, but Melody surprised me by reaching out and stopping me.
"Piink will handle it," Melody said furthering adding to my confusion.
"Did she threaten you when she gave you that cut?" I asked and Melody's lip lifted in a small smile but she dropped it.
"You're still the President Son, Jasper. Whatever it is, it'll be dealt with and you don't have to expose yourself."
I don't argue with her because the fighting seized and there were numerous muffled voices. We waited until the crate opened and a pair of honey brown eyes stared down at us.
Piink had taken off her mask.
But the bottom half of her face was still covered in a black mask - from the bridge of her nose to her chin. Bangs covered her forehead. It reminded of me when I first met her, with a homemade cloth mask tied around her face. The cut I remembered so clearly was still present. Before it peeked out of her mask, where only the imagination had left to me to make up stories on how she got it and how long it was.
But since this mask didn't hide her neck like her old one, I could see it was longer than I thought. It went from the side of her nose, disappeared under her mask across her cheek, but ended at the start of her neck. A clear knife cut, I knew now.
A quick flash of annoyance appearance in her eyes. It was fascinating to watch since this was the first time in a long time that I saw any part of her face or her emotions.
"Stop staring." Her voice was raspier than it was in my memory. Harsher. And yet, somewhat, songlike.
Another person appeared next to her, wearing the same mask and looking at Melody with clear gray eyes. He extended a tanned hand out to help her to her feet.
"You're younger than I thought," Melody muttered, still looking at Piink, and the blue eyed young man narrowed his eyes.
"If you keep trying to analyzing us, Piink will knock you out." He was smiling under the mask, his eyes squinted. His voice had a slight accent mixed with something else. He picked up the accent while living in the UK and it wasn't his natural accent, I concluded. October had taught me to pick up on the little differences. I told her to was impossible, that I didn't think I could hear the differences, but it almost came naturally now. She would be so proud.
I scanned the place. Riley and Dylan were pulling themselves out of there box as two other of Piink's team were dragging two bodies out. One guard was against the wall, bleeding but clearly dead. One girl went to get him, but Piink held a hand.
