I went to work the next day, like nothing had happened. Harry was as dashing as ever, as was everyone in the office. I was the one that was different. But despite the fact that I looked radiant, everyone in the office was officially ignoring me, or talking to me as little as they could, even Harry felt a little distant. The word had gotten out that I was dating a vampire, and for some reason -I blame Luca- everyone thought that the vampire I was dating had killed Lyla, Jenna and Adam. They also thought that saving my sister's life was a charade plotted by me and Dennis to try to exculpate him for the crimes. Ridiculous.

I left work at around 07.00 pm, because it was a busy day and I had to stay late doing some things for Harry. I got home and my mom, Carl and Sophie were having dinner. I served myself dinner and then I sat next to Sophie.

"How was your day?" Carl asked.

"Busy." I said, and then I shoved a spoon-full of rise in my mouth. I was really hungry. Carl nodded.

There was an uncomfortable atmosphere in the dining room, and I though it might have to do with the fact that everyone in town thought I was dating a murderer. Well, I hadn't asked Dennis if he had ever killed someone, but given the fact that he was a fucking vampire, I'd say it was possible I was actually dating a murderer. But it wasn't like they thought. I knew Dennis must've killed some people in his 98 years of being a vampire, but he hadn't killed anyone in town, I was sure of that.

"How was yours?" I asked Carl, trying to alleviate the tension.

"Good, they're considering me for a promotion." he looked at my mom and she smiled.

They were so cute together sometimes it made me think about my father. I didn't remember much about him, as you might imagine. But I did remember that him and my mom loved each other. When Carl came into the picture, I immediately hated him, because I thought he wanted to replace my father, and nobody could possibly do that. But then my mother got pregnant and he moved in with us, and I got to know him. And now he was pretty much like a dad to me. I actually think my dad would like Carl, because he makes my mom happy.

"Good luck." I wished him, and he smiled at me. "And Sophie, how's school?" I asked my sister.

"Good, I guess." she shrugged.

Dinner was over pretty soon, and everyone went their separate ways. My mom and Carl sat to watch TV together, Sophie went to her room to do homework, and I went to my room to get ready.

Dennis was supposed to pick me up at 8.00 pm. He didn't say what we were going to do or where we were going to go, but he did say "wear something nice" and I thought because it was vampire related, "nice" meant something else. So, I decided I was going to wear something different than what I would normally wear here in Santa Mon. I pulled out of my closet the clothes I wore when I was home in New York, and I took one good look at the big pile. I saw two articles of clothing that I hadn't worn in forever. The skirt was black, tight and short, and it made my legs look longer that they were. The top was short, tight, sleeveless and black also, it had lace on the bottom part, and it made my boobs looks really good. I finished the look with a pair of my favorite black boots.

When I looked in the mirror I thought I was wearing too much black, so I put on red lipstick and a red leather jacket. I used the curling iron to curl my hair to perfection, I put on more eyeliner than ever, and then I finally felt like I was ready. I didn't look like myself, I looked better.

I got out of the house at 7.57 pm and I did it very silently so I wouldn't have to explain to my family why I looked like a stereotypical vampire out of a movie. At exactly 9.00 pm a black mustang pulled up in my drive-in and Dennis got out of it. I gave him a surprised look, but it seemed like he was more surprised than me.
