I looked out the window of the car Alexander was driving as I tried to figure out exactly when my life had turned into such a mess. We were going to Richmond VA, which was about an hour away by car, and there, we were going to meet all the vampires from The Academy that were going to help us. That was also the place the last body had been found about three hours before, so it was the most likely place the infected vampires were at. Dennis was sitting next to me, but he was very distant, like he was still mad at me for volunteering to help them, but I choose not to think about it. Him being mad at me -although it did concern me- wasn't my first priority.

The car ride was as silent as you'd expect, but the silence didn't make me uncomfortable, mainly because I was focusing on the fact I might die in a while. Alexander pulled over in what looked like the middle of nowhere, and him and Jacqueline got out of the car, Dennis followed and so did I. God, vampires really only spoke when they had to.

"Where are we?" I asked, but apparently nobody was in the mood for answering me. I sighed. Vampires were so weird.

"They're here." Jacqueline said, and everyone turned to her.

She was right. Around ten vampires appeared at vampire speed and surrounded us before I could even process Jacqueline's words completely. They were all as gorgeous and majestic as you'd imagine, and they were all looking at me like I was the only glass of water in the middle of the dessert. Dennis got in front of me and protected me with his body.

"You brought lunch?" one of the vampires asked. She was blonde and tall. She looked like the female version of Alexander. Dennis had his fangs out and he was in his fighting position.

"She's the bait." Alexander said, as he grabbed Dennis's arm and took him away from me. "Don't be ridiculous, Dennis. They're not going to hurt her."

Right, but they'd sure like to. I could feel their hungry eyes on me, and I didn't feel too comfortable with it, but there was little I could do about it. I was the one who offered herself as bait, and I had a feeling it was too late to back down.

"What is she?" another vampire asked, like I wasn't even there. I was starting to see a patron here; vampires treated humans like we were walking blood bags. I assumed he meant I didn't feel the same way most humans did.

"She's not important." Alexander answered. All the vampires stopped looking at me like they wanted to eat me, and they started paying attention to Alexander. "We have work to do." he said. All the vampires agreed.

Suddenly Alexander grabbed me by the arm, and against Dennis's protests he dragged me at vampire speed to god know where. He was going so fast I couldn't process where we were going, but all I knew was that all the vampires were following behind us. Then he stopped, and I immediately pushed him, or at least I tried.

"That was unnecessary." I said, as I fixed my now wrinkled sleeve.

"We vampires like to be dramatic." he said with a smug smile on his face I suddenly wanted to punch out of him.

We were now in the middle of a field, but not so far away from the city because it was visible from where we were standing. It was dark, and not a single soul was around. There were also a couple of trees here and there that made the landscape look painting-worthy under the moonlight.

I wondered how they would do it. I mean, were they going to cut my wrists and then hang me from a pole? Were they going to crucify me? I could think of so many ways they could use me as bait, and none of them sounded pleasant.

Dennis stood next to me a second later and he looked at Alexander with 'I want to kill you' eyes. Dennis always looked at Alexander like he wanted to hurt him, but like he couldn't. It probably had something to do with Alexander being more than a thousand years old.
