I was really upset about what had just happened, especially the part where Dennis had walked away from me without giving me a chance to explain myself. I didn't even know what was going through his mind after what he saw. I did know however, how he felt. And I felt incredibly bad for making him feel so betrayed and jealous, but I didn't think I'd done anything wrong. Fucking vampires, they were messier and more complicated than most humans I knew.
I thought since I had nothing to do I'd just hang out at the bar with Merissa, I could even convince her to stay away from the blonde, six feet and four inches, handsome vampire that screamed trouble. I walked into the bar and I saw Luca now tending the bar and Merissa taking a break. I sighed and walked towards him.
"Luca..." I didn't exactly know how to express how sorry I was.
Luca glimpsed at me and then he turned around to arrange some bottles. I noticed the bottle shelf had been fixed since the last time I'd been there, when Luca smashed his drink against it. I turned to Merissa looking for advice, and she shrugged.
"I just wanted to say..." I started, but Luca interrupted me.
"I don't think more people are gonna show up today, so I'm closing. Can you clean up the last tables, Merissa?" he asked, looking at my redheaded friend sitting next to me. He didn't even look at me this time, and I felt tears start to accumulate in my eyes.
"Fine." I gave up. "But just know that if you ever want to talk, I'm here." I said and then I walked away. Merissa followed me.
"Honey." she caressed my back. One tear fell from my left eye, and I could feel the other ones wanting to follow.
"Dennis didn't kill them, I swear. If he did I wouldn't be with him, how can Luca not see that?" I hugged her and cried on her shoulder. She started running her fingers through my hair.
"I know, baby." she said as she held me tight.
After a minute I could finally stop myself from crying and I pulled away from Merissa. I didn't know what I would do without her, and that scared me.
"I think you should stay away from Alexander." I said. Merissa stopped looking at me with sympathy and her eyes turned annoyed.
"You don't get to decide that." she was right. It would've been hypocritical of me to demand her not to date a vampire since I was dating one. But despite being fully aware of my hypocrisy, I still wanted to protect her.
"I know, but he's not like Dennis." I said, and Merissa put both hands on her hips.
"So?"
"I just don't want you to get hurt." and I meant physically as much as psychologically.
"I'm an adult, Stella. I'll fuck as many vampires as I want, and you don't get a say on that." Merissa was one of those girls that could flip a switch and go from completely adorable to threatening in a heartbeat. "I have to go clean up tables now, Stella. Goodnight." and then she walked away angrily. God, what was it about me that made everybody angry all the sudden?
I sighed and then I started walking towards Dennis's house. He didn't know me at all if the thought I'd just let it go and not insist on talking to him. I got to his house in a second, and I became very surprised when I saw what I saw when someone opened the door.
The first thing that made me frown, was that the one that opened the door was not Dennis, it was Jacqueline. God, was I going to run into these vampires all the time now? Well, at least she wasn't naked, but I still didn't rule out the possibility of her having sex with Dennis in that time he'd been alone. I did rule out that possibility though when I saw Alexander standing in the middle of Dennis's living room.
